I don’t own an iron…
Many of you reading this are WordPress Bloggers. You may have heard of being ‘Freshly Pressed’, where WordPress Editors pick out posts that are instantly given a lot of attention. It feels like their way of saying some bloggers are better than others, that they’re more worthy of sharing.
I even Googled, ‘How to get Freshly Pressed’.
Hmmm, note to self, next time you search, add, ‘on WordPress’, because, wow, that got weird, really fast.
Apparently none of my blog posts have: ‘enlightened’, ‘inspired’, ‘entertained’, or got the WordPress Editors ‘talking’.
Oh well, at least I’ve learned a lot about blogging, sorta…
-
I’m more concise (applause).
-
I know about: fonts, stats, sharing, widgets, I know what SEO stands for, Search Engine Oops, maybe I don’t.
-
I’m on Twitter, Facebook, Goodreads, LinkedIn, Google+, Pinterest – I’m everywhere and as it turns out, nowhere.
-
I’ve virtually met fantastic people…or who knows, maybe they’re all one giant app that pretends to be bloggers and readers.
-
I’ve made mistakes…many. I’ve had popular posts and some you could hear crickets chirping as the post sits there being ignored.
-
I’ve been encouraged, discouraged, disappointed, and delighted.
-
I’ve learned to not take it too seriously.
-
Yet for Freshly Pressed folks, apparently I don’t write ‘unique content’ that’s free of ‘bad stuff’ (where’s the fun in that?).
-
I don’t have a ‘point of view’ (that’s silly, everyone has a point of view, even if they borrowed it from someone else).
-
I don’t paint them ‘a picture’ or make it easy on their eyes (this seems like a blatant attempt to get me to buy a Premium package).
-
I don’t add ‘relevant tags’ (too many tags, not enough tags, make up your mind).
My headlines can be ‘ignored’ (I already put the word ‘Obscure’ in my tagline).
-
I make
typoos, er, typos. Sorry I’m not prefect, WordPress.
I’ve tried, I really have, for over 500 posts, but sigh, I’m still in The-Land-of-Never-To-Be-Freshly-Pressed. It’s worse than being Friend-zoned.
- Well, I never really wanted to be Freshly Pressed anyway (so there).
-
You can keep your FP Clique.
-
You keep your special jackets that say FP on them and super-duper secret decoder rings.
-
Keep your secret Clubhouse where all the Freshly Pressed elite virtually hang out and talk about us losers that will never be Pressed.
Just realized, this little rant probably got me banned from being Freshly Pressed, for my blogging lifetime. So what? I was never going to be anyway (er, was I?).
So, why will I never be Freshly Pressed? Ummm, no clue….

hahahahaha!!!! And just like this you got so many comments :-). This is spot on, love it! And may I join your club, please??? We should actually create a club… like ‘Desperate Housewives’… you know… of course we are far from being desperate because we’re not freshly pressed… but a club with a cool name would be fun…

Pfft, being “Freshly Pressed” is overrated…”yawn” I’m not interested in that and I lmao at how searching for how to get freshly pressed got weird lol. There are so many other ways to get noticed out there…I certainly don’t rely on WordPress editors to get my message out…in fact I don’t even read freshly pressed material…at least that I am aware of lol…I find most of the articles stiff and I think they are catering to the “English Major” and “proper writing” don’t get me wrong, it’s not a horrible thing but I’m not looking to have a pissing contest with professional writers…I’m just me…my blog is just my blog and anything above that is a bonus but not necessary 🙂 Keep doing your thing girl! 🙂

Write a long piece about the recent attacks in France and you will be freshly pressed.

That’s what I did wrong, I wrote a small piece and didn’t exactly fully mention Paris…anyway, I’m pretty sure by writing ‘Why I Will Never Be Freshly Pressed’ I sealed my fate and will never be Freshly Pressed. The WordPress Editors don’t seem to have much in the sense of humour department. I’m ok with being Freshly Unpressed or Unfreshly Pressed, either way, there’s cake. 🙂

How did I miss this post the first time? I just found it on OM’s site.
Most of us have given up the idea of ever being Freshly Pressed. At this point, I’m not sure I would consider it that much of an honor considering the posts they tend to choose. I figure as long as my follower count continues to rise, I must be doing something right.
Oh, and I have been Harshly Pressed (thank you, Jason) – now that’s a badge I can be proud of.

I try to visit the freshly pressed blogs at least once a day. I haven’t stumbled on many of them that I would classify as fresh material and even fewer that I would take the time to comment on. Most of them seem to be regurgitated headliners or even copy pasted articles from news, and magazines complete with links. They are generally lengthy and can contain professional quality photos. Most of them are very well written, similar to what I might find in small town newspapers who get their stories from the AP and more or less stick to the story line while adding their own flare. I’d guess that most of them put a good deal of effort into a post that looks professional.
If I were going to attempt to make it to the freshly pressed pages I would study the ones there and follow their format. Kind of like in college when you find out what the teacher likes and deliver it or you never do get that A. I don’t begrudge those willing to make the effort but it’s not on my to do list. My blog is just for fun.

I love this! I sometimes how to be Freshly Pressed but considering most of my posts are reviews of books and films I doubt I’ll ever be considered. Any time I look at them (which isn’t often) the posts seem to be serious poetry, meaningful and inspirational life story or someone spouting their opinion on something or other. If I ever get the chance to write such a post I’ll be sure to use American spellings of words as my tags!

I don’t see what the juice is about being Freshly Pressed. I was Freshly Pressed and it was a nice honor to achieve. But Freshly Pressed is equivalent to going viral.. It’s random, or it’s based on what trending in the world or a certain niche. There are millions of blogs, and thousands created daily. A part of blogging and writing is to enjoy what you do, also you can get recognition from your peers and more brilliant of things than a button. 🙂 Just my thoughts. Hold it down and be merry… Great blog you have here by the way. 🙂

I actually tried reading some of that Freshly Pressed stuff once, it didn’t strike me as especially special. I’ve since then moved on, I don’t think I can meet the criteria anyhow, being as how I kind of make typos here and there. But wouldn’t it be ironic if this is the one post they really notice, and this post about never being Freshly Pressed is the one that gets you the decoder ring, and the Jacket and tour of the club house?

My MIL got me my iron…..she’s been dead for 9 years. The last time I used that thing was probably 9 years and 2 weeks ago in an effort to please her. Now my daughter uses it to iron cloth napkins for the holidays. I’m totally cool with paper napkins but the hubs is a traditionalist (cave man) and those napkins won’t iron themselves and I sure as fahk won’t do it. So I pay my DD and everyone wins…..wait that’s not what the post was about…….why am I in the pantry (again)?
