What is the deal, America?

Canada isn’t known as the 51st state for nothing. Canada and America are BFFs, I thought it would be easier…to stay friends, well, except throwing shade during that nasty little war over 200 years ago, but Canada wasn’t even a country then, we’re only turning 150 this July 1st – Happy Birthday Canada! https://yadadarcyyada.com/2014/07/01/happy-canada-day-eh/

Canadians are, er, unique…

Honk ! Honk ! On behalf of American hosers everywhere, I salute you. Thanks for bringing a sense of humor to just one of a series of embarrassing incidents. We’re so sorry.
Thanks for the honks and I know, he doesn’t speak for most Americans, who am I kidding, he can barely speak at all.
Don’t get started with the sorries, then I’ll just apologize for making you feel like you have to apologize. 😉
I wish WordPress would let nonWPers like things! 😀
I know, it seems so unfair, I have relatives and friends who started a ‘blog’ just to like my posts. It’s discriminatory. lol 😉
I’ll take your imaginary like and hug it close, Bonnie, thank you. 🙂 Hope this week treats you kindly, eh. 😉
Don’t worry, most of us like Canada much more than we like Orange Mutant things that pretend to lead our country. Seeing that one picture, I think you need to bring back Doug and Bob Mckenzie to show Americans what Canada is about….
I hope so! I would love to have Bob and Doug back, I think it’s time for a movie reunion! 😉
After I put up the comment I went and watched a few videos on Youtube… We do need them to do a reunion movie.
They really do eh. Cooooo-roo-koo-koo, coo-roo-koo-koo. Did you see ‘Donut shop parking’? Classic.
Yes, that’s one of the ones I watched. Who knew that you’re supposed to go to the counter in a doughnut shop?
They have so much to teach us. lol 😉
They do! Another one I saw was about why American beer had twist off caps. maybe they’re right – the IPAs with like 7 or 10% alcohol are not twist off…. 😉
I’ve emailed the CBC (for non Canadians that’s the Canadian Broadcast Corporation) and asked them to consider doing a Bob and Doug reunion. 🙂
I hope they listen.
Me too, eh.
Another wonderful post, Darceroo! So good in fact, I’m considering downloading one or two images and maybe a gif or two!
Some people say bloggers are plagiarists but I prefer to say we are mutually inspirational to one another. Thanks for the inspiration!
Jay
P.S.: I didn’t know you were Canadian!…
Okay, lady, let’s see some I-D! 👮
Thank you kindly, yes, go for it, we must spread the #bloglove
Yes, Canadian, born and maple syrup bred! 😉
Hope this weekend treats you kindly (there’s my ID). 😉
Dear Donna, only you could give us something delightful when given something despicable. Should I thank Number 45 for it? I don’t think so, but I’m glad you were inspired to write this post. HONK! and Mega Hugs!
I think in the face of such horror you must find humour, it was really the only thing that kept myself and others going here in Canada when we were under the thumb of our own dictator (not orange, but just as creepy, maybe more so) for almost 10 years. Then we voted in PM JT and life has gotten much better. 🙂
Thanks for the Honk, dear Teagan, hang in there, there’s hope. 🙂
Mega I still loves oranges, but sometimes they make me shiver now hugs xox
1. I always enjoy your hilarious posts. 2. I’m in awe of all the information that you pull together for any one post, especially this one. 3. The list of famous Canadians — some I knew to be from Canada, but quite a few surprises. Wow! 4. I (and millions of other Americans) are so exasperated with and embarrassed by the clown in the White House. I’m hoping that he won’t last even as much as 4 years. Still in shock and disbelief that this is where we’ve arrived in U.S. politics. 5. Thanks for writing yadadarcyyada — I love it!
Thank you kindly.
Yes, we have so much talent we like to share. lol 😉
I know, this is just a little satire, but it’s so complex, isn’t it? When people feel scared they do things that aren’t always in their best interests.
Thanks for visiting, I hope this weekend treats you well, Mimi. 🙂
Love your style! # fdflinkparty
Thank you kindly, hope we can virtually visit often. 🙂
You don’t need to add an Canadian to the Avengers…..you already have Alpha Flight and Wolverine as well…..
I just figured since those were mostly known for their X-Men stuff and The Avengers seem in style, we might be liked more if we added another, more Canadian superhero, I know it probably won’t work, but…And since Hugh Jackman plays Wolverine (for now) and he’s Australian (still a Commonwealth country, but…). We have Guardian, Northstar, Aurora, Puck, Shaman, Marrina, Sasquatch, Murmur, Snowbird, and more, all Canadian too, but I’m still pushing for Captain Concussion, I know he’ll have a hard fight to be accepted, but it seems worth a try.
But until then,will you settle for Major Mapleleaf?
Maybe, but I like the idea of drawing attention to the easily preventable problems of concussions too. Maybe we can do it all! 😉
Heck, with that many stars migrating over to the U.S. are you sure you don’t own it already.OK, I know some of them are technically dead now but you know people never seem to hear about that until it comes as major shock 10 years later, anyway check their will, Leonard Cohen might have left you California.
xxx Massive Weekend Hugs xxx
by the by, Prince Charles, Camilla, lovely people. Be nice, he might be the next King. xxxx
lol We have so much talent we just feel like we need to share it (although in some cases I’m sure some folks would wish we didn’t share quite so much). 😉
Oh, that would be lovely, but if not, Mr. Cohen has left me a little piece of his soul in his tunes. 🙂
I’m sure they’re lovely, but they’re expensive when visiting and just not very interesting. I’d rather we didn’t have a Queen or King, we can do it ourselves, but they’re welcome to visit, just not so often.
Massive I want to see more female scientists, doctors, astronauts, politicians, activists, etc. on our money hugs xoxoxo
Somehow you managed to turn this horrifying topic into a few smiles, Donna. The one thing we’ve learned in this first 100 days of Trump is not to pay any attention to what he says, it’ll change again soon. Sorry about the orange image. Great post, as always.
I really believe in the face of such horror you must find humour; it was really the only thing that kept myself and others going here in Canada when we were under the thumb of our own dictator (not orange, but just as creepy, maybe more so) for almost 10 years. Then we voted in PM JT and life has gotten much better. 🙂
My Grandpa used to say, that guy changes his mind more than his underwear lol Think it works here. 😉
Wolverine is Canadian (or at least he thinks he is after he wakes back up). That’s got to count for something, right?
And please, please, know I would very much love to see more of your PM as long as you are still up for exporting talent.
Yes and Hugh Jackman (sigh) plays Wolverine and he’s from a Commonwealth country, Australia and Canada is also a Commonwealth country – we were all countries the Queen used to own (and still on our money), so yes, totally counts. 😉
He’s as good at yoga as governing and not bad to look, thank goodness we voted ourselves out of the horror show we had for almost 10 years, still traumatized. The good news, our PM likes to travel, a lot. 🙂
Did you forget Neil P. Young (the man!)…
I thought he was in there, but if he wasn’t, he was in my first, longer list – https://yadadarcyyada.com/2014/07/01/happy-canada-day-eh/ He’d also go under the category of groovy 70’s music we could add to the new Guardians of the Galaxy movie. 😉
Oh Donna I love Neil Young and the Oldies Stations here often play his 70’s music. Have a good weekend friend! x
He really has such a strong voice, figuratively and literally, and so much to say, some even more relevant now. Keep on rockin’ in the free world (while we can!). Thanks and hope this weekend treats you well. 🙂
Thanks Donna and you as well! x
🙂
If you want fewer problems, you need to remove the Queen from your money and Stamp on the face of America’s new king. Money is all he wants. Don’t forget the crown!
It is all he cares about and power and ratings. I want to see more female scientists, astronauts, doctors, activists, politicians, etc. on our money. Oh no, I just realized, what if he puts that orange mug on your money – the horror! 😉
Not a problem–by then I won”t have any money
Ha! Silver linings? Er, no… 😉
The malignant narcissist in the White House wants more than money. He wants an endless supply of women to legally grope that are under 35.
And power and attention, lots and lots of attention. Sigh we keep giving him what he wants sadly.
Why do I feel like some Rick-rolling needs to be added here? Just to assure Canada, of course. 😀
Another thing Britain gave us, hmmm, would he go under the pros or cons category…or both? 😉
Probably both. 🙂
Probably. Hope this weekend is being good to you. 🙂
You always have me laughing, Donna. I love the Canadian police chase. Too funny!
WE are a unique bunch! 😉
Yup!
🙂
Blame Trump and a small number of other American billionaire oligarchs, like the Koch brothers (and their ALEC organization, a corporate shadow government in the U.S.), the Walton family, Besty Devos (she is a member of ALEC), etc., for all this crap. The malignant narcissist running around naked in the U.S. White House lost the popular vote by almost 3-million votes. The U.S. is the only so-called democracy in the world with an Electoral College that allows presidential candidates to win the popular vote and lose the election. The Electoral College was a compromise during the 18th-century rebellion so the slave owning colonies would stay in the fight and not switch back to the British Empire.
That overwhelming majority of American voters are all victims of Trump too who is challenging the U.S. Constitution regularly in an attempt to transition the U.S. into an autocracy and not a republic. Every time Agent Orange criticizes the courts for blocking his executive orders on grounds that they are unconstitutional, he is attacking the U.S. Constitution that he lied and swore to defend when he took the oath of office.
And as long as the corrupt and extreme freaking far-right controlled GOP holds the majority in both Houses of the US Congress and continues to allow the groping, serial lying, king of bankruptcies and court cases, Agent Orange traitor in the White House that calls himself (the illegitimate and very unpopular) president of the U.S. to get away with his traitorous crimes/frauds, we are all doomed.
Why can’t someone from a black ops group working out of the CIA or NIA drop another MOAB on this freak when he is spending another weekend at his Florida resort at the taxpayers’ expense?
I hope it doesn’t come to that, but I wish some journalist finds the truth and can actually get it out there. 🙂
Donna, your humor, in the most trying of times, continues to amaze and delight 🙂
Our orange leader and his team have lost their heads. Bunker down, brain splat is everywhere.
By the way, during my days as an international trade professional, the Canadians were were Number One favorite clients, followed by the Australians.
I think it’s hen we need our sense of humour the most.
Thank you kindly, I would like to say I’m surprised, but I’m not.
Hope this weekend treats you well (and with little or no orange splat). xox
Aww Canada, We Dutch will ALWAYS be your friends 😀
http://storage.torontosun.com/v1/dynamic_resize/sws_path/suns-prod-images/1297695560070_ORIGINAL.jpg?quality=80&size=650x
We love you too!!! 🙂
I wish the orange horror story wasn’t in charge, Donna. And his hypocritical Republican minions are jeffyfish with no backbone at all (no offense to poor jellyfish). He’s backpedaling on getting rid of Nafta, but he’s still committed to impoverishing the American people, dropping big f**king bombs on North Korea, and destroying the planet. Sorry, world. Hopefully, Americans will rally and take back control of the legislature in two years. Let’s just hope we live that long. 🙁
We did, of course ours is a much smaller level, after all, we’re Canada eh, but we have to keep hope and get people out to vote. 🙂
Oh Diana – you took my comment! Agent Orange is more than a horror – he’s impulsively EVIL (and the Pencil, his second in command is evil without even that much of an excuse). Both seem to have zero empathy, NO cause and effect reasoning ability, and even less education. Don’t get me started on their empty-headed minions!
HOW did this happen? Gerrymandering & the Electoral College! America needs to lock every single member of the EC into a closet and feed them only what fits under the door until they all whither and grow old and America forgets they ever existed. Since most Americans don’t bother to remain informed or to fact check, still insisting that Hillary would have been worse because of the email twitter spin, WE can spin the massive political disappearance as an alternative fact and claim they are all on extended vacations — if anybody EVER misses them, that is.
MEANWHILE, the rest of us can spend some time fixing what has been done to the voting districts, just in case the EC figures out some way to escape and insist on voting again in our next election before we can locate enough duct tape.
Meanwhile, we laugh at whatever we can – maniacally, no doubt, but it beats crying over milk long spilt and spoiled. Thanks, Donna. Long live Canada – and try to remember that we’re not ALL crazy on the other side of Niagra Falls (even though most of the Republican party has clearly lost whatever was left of its collective mind.

Excellent points, Madelyn and hope the other D. finds this! 🙂
I can rant all day, Madelyn. But it doesn’t change anything unless I’m ranting to someone who can change the situation. Keep calling and writing your representatives. If we can’t fix Washington, at least we can push for safeguards in state and local gov. What a mess!
Excellent advice!!! Protest, resist, advocate, calling, writing, and always, always vote!
Sad we now have to be apologetic for our country, isn’t it?
I must be on several “nut-job” lists by now I’ve emailed so often, Diana. I even respond to their auto-generated emails saying how much they appreciate hearing from me. 🙂
I always remind them that I vote, I’ll be watching what they do, and I get involved – and that I expect them to protect me and ALL Americans from what’s going on in Washington (with specifics). ::sigh::
Do you follow Diane Ravitch? Well done blog – intelligent, keeps up – education focused but not exclusively.
xx,
mgh
Getting involved is the answer.
Getting involved is an action, and certainly important. Whether it is “the answer” or not remains to be seen, I fear.
xx,
mgh
I guess it depends on the question lol 😉
Always true. 🙂

🙂
I don’t follow Diane Ravitch. I’m very involved in local and state politics, watch a fair amount of national political news. I get depressed if I have too much exposure. 😉
She’s excellent, she tries to show all sides.
Same here. I can’t *watch* at all – so I keep up online.
I’m rushing to sprinkle content below on comments I won’t be able to locate “backstage” on my return.
~~~~~~~~~~
I’m out the door until Thurs. (5/4) as soon as I “send.” Tink and I will be leaving for a cabin at a State Park in the hills of Kentucky with my friend Sam, whom I met in Knoxville, TN. when I was a freshman in college and we were both young and beautiful – lol – taking Social Dance because it counted as gym (and neither of us wanted to mess up our GPA’s and figured this would be an easy A).
We had barely arrived when instructor told us to partner up – for the ENTIRE course. (Hmmmm – so which male can I stand to have pawing me for an entire quarter?) Sam was the only male in the class who was clearly not a jock, so I snapped him up. (I needn’t have worried, the athletes paired off with the cheerleaders) 🙂
So began a life-long friendship, mostly by phone in the last decade or so – and we are both psyched to spend a few days catching up in person.
I won’t be back online until Friday late-ish. Sam will be staying with me Thursday nite before driving home (and I have to deal with lease renewals and outside errands during the day).
I hope your week is equally lovely – DITTO anyone else reading.
xx,
mgh
So much of it is repetitive and they don’t fact check enough.
Wow, sounds cool, hope everything goes wonderfully. 🙂 xoxo
Thanks – a fabulous time was had by ALL!
xx,
mgh
🙂
Sounds like a wonderful trip, Madelyn. Have fun catching up with an old friend! 😀
🙂
It WAS, Diana – too short, of course, but everything else was absolutely perfect. Sam and I picked up as if we’d never spent a minute apart – and had a ball reliving many wonderful memories – and making new ones.
xx,
mgh
I’m here for you!!!
Stand together! 🙂
We love you all. This will pass away. Send me some Cuban cigars, a Molson and some Players Navy Cuts and I’ll help overthrow the government.
lol You know it, John! 😉
I love Canada. Glad I’ve visited many times. OK…it’s a little chilly on my bones, but the dessert wine is tasty enough to ignore that completely. Love the falls from the Canadian vantage point. No barrel necessary [giggle].
What else can I say? Oh! I’m not very political, so boo hiss to any situation that necessitates anyone being so towards such a cool beans country. I’d cross borders anytime!
I know I might be biased, but Canada is awesome!!! Thank you. I used to live in the more Northern part (born and raised), but I live in almost the most Southern part now, but either way, you’re right, it is a cool beans country. Cross away! 😉
Honk !!! Sorry. On behalf of the hair-in-the-house.
lol We can feel the USA love. 😉
Reblogged this on Candace Vianna Writes.
Candace, thank you so much for the cool reblog, #blamecanada and thanks for spreading the #bloglove
Hope this weekend treats you kindly. 🙂
HONK, HONK, HOOOONNNNKKK! We’re sorry. Pretty soon we’ll have no friends, no economy, Cheeto rations and Russian vodka…and I don’t like Cheetos. 😉
Many thanks for the giggles…as always! Have a great weekend!
lol Thank you, for the Canada love and and fr the giggles. Hope this weekend treats you well. 🙂
Giggles for giggles works every time! 😉
I find, for me, being happy even in unhappy times makes the unhappy times easier. 🙂
Canada is my favorite state. And you’re AOK in my book, eh, Darcy.
lol Thank you, Mitch, I think you’re AOK too. 🙂
Long live Canada. Each time I re-open the maple syrup bottle and spread it over the butter- milk infused pancakes, I’ll think of you and Canada.
However, each time my dog ‘Milo’ cocks his leg against the Eucalypt tree, I’ll think of Trump.
Hope this helps.
lol Yes, this helps a lot and now I want pancakes. 😉
Hallo my awesome blogger friend,
I have nominated you for the “Awesome Blogger Award”, so please check the following link and I would ♥ it if you see your way open to participate and pay it forward: https://cookandenjoyrecipes.wordpress.com/2017/04/28/awesome-blogger-award/
Congratulations!
Congrats on your award, well-deserved. I enjoyed your answers. 🙂
Thank you for the delightful nomination, I see I’m in good company. 🙂
I’m off to share, visit, follow, and share some more!
Hope the week ahead treats you kindly. 🙂
Thanks for #sharingiscaring and may you have an awesome week as well
🙂
HI Donna. Reporting in from S.Africa where I haven’t heard anything about your problem. I too believed Canada and the USA were BFF. I need to go online and find out what has happened now in the area of politics. Between the US and the SA leadership it doesn’t take much more to prove the world is in trouble! Yay for Yesterday as you Build a Better Blog. #AtoZchallenge.
I hope we can still be friends, Shirley.
I’m not sure we’re always getting the best leaders (we can’t complain right now, but wow, before…), but I hope you’ll get something better. 🙂
Love your #atozchallenge posts, just shared the ‘Y’ one and bookmarked it, very interesting. 🙂
Thanks D. Yes, it will be good if we can keep in touch. Thanks for your comments.
🙂
HONK!
Thank you, we need them. 😉
Alpha Flight is the Canadian version of the Avengers. They have their own Sasquatch
I’ll refer you to the earlier comment where we discussed this already. I’m guessing I wasn’t clear enough this was satire, so I’ll just say, this is satire, I was joking. As a comic geek and a proud Canadian I’m proud of our comic heroes. 😉
I knew it was satire. This is actually one of my favorites of yours. Saw the Wolverine comment, missed the Alpha Flight one. I actually got chased by a Canadian Mountee in Montreal once. It was hysterical!
I thought you had, but I admit it would be my fault if you didn’t, satire is a tricky business, you never quite know if you did it right. lol 😉
Really, what did you do or should I ask, depending on the Mountie it might be fun. 😉
Reblogged this on Smorgasbord – Variety is the spice of life and commented:
One thing I was brought up to be was polite to the neighbours and there have been some interesting ones over the years. When you live in close proximity you have to work it out.. Donna Parker mourns the growing divide between the USA and Canada and also the UK. She has a point…actually several… well said..
Thank you, Sally, for the reblog and I’m glad we’re good blogging neighbours. 🙂
Hope this weekend treats you kindly. 🙂
As a fellow Canuck, I won’t Honk, but I will applaud this wonderful post. I’m so pleased to have discovered you! Enjoy your weekend!
Another proud Canadian and blogger, pleased to meet you, John, hope we can virtually visit often. 🙂
Thank you and hope this weekend treats you well. 🙂
I look forward to future visits Darcy.
Me too. 🙂
Honk, honk, honk! Love Canada!
Thank you, thank you, Jan, the love is returned!!! 🙂
Cool and clever post but I gotta stick up for my president. And a friendly hug to everyone who commented but Please consider that there are many thoughtful and loving people who see things a different way.
I’m guessing this is the first time on my blog, Jena or you’d be aware I love differences, agreeing to disagree, and seeing things from many sides, but I do have problems with leaders who don’t care about their people (just lived through years and years of that, will not recommend it), and people who lie, way too many bad experiences with people who lie. Thank you for dropping by and I hope your president cares as much about you as you do about him. Hope this weekend treats you kindly. 🙂
Thanks! It was my first time but I am coming back! I love learning and sharing! Appreciate your comment and talk to you soon. In a friendly way!
Glad we found each other, Jena, I feel some of our worst problems are not seeing each others points of view. I’m always willing to learn. 🙂
Cheers!
“Life is mostly froth and bubble,
Wonderful! cheers, again!
🙂
Ahahaha ! We love Canada.
The love is returned! 🙂
So if I’m reading this correctly, you’d like us to send you President Tiny Hands and his entire Cabinet as some sort of border war reparations? 🙂
Are you trying to terrify us? Start the War of 2017? lol Thanks but no thanks, we’re good. 😉
Hope we’ll always be good neighbours, Austin (countries and blogs).
🙂
🙂
As Jamaicans are wont to say: “Yu haffe tek bad tings and mek a joke.” Which you certainly did, Donna. And made us all smile. By the way, there’s an upside to Trump’s election: it’s woken many people up and reminded them that , even in ‘the land of the free’, they should not take anything for granted. Trumps can happen!
That’s awesome, Cynthia, yes, that is the way I tend to go.
I agree, I think people take things for granted then certain things shake them up. I hope it makes people listen to each other.
lol Trumps indeed can happen. 😉
Donna, I love Canada. I really do. I mean, when we were planning our honeymoon my soon-to-be was prepared to take me anywhere in the world. Where did I want to go? Canada!
And we’re always happy to have our neighbours here. Thank you for the love, it’s returned, Jean! 🙂
The sad and terribly frustrating part of this is that most Americans do not support Trump. He lost the popular vote by millions in the election. He’s more a dictator than a President. Clinton would be fostering our relationship with Canada, NATO… I hope most people understand that the idiot currently in the White House neither defines nor represents American values. In fact, most of us are holding our breaths each and every day, not knowing what the POTUS will do next and wondering if we’ll end up in bread lines and soup kitchens. Trump is a malignant narcissist. I hope the world can survive his incumbency, which will most likely be known as the Day of the Maelstrom. I think the most effective thing we can do is hold positive energy and project that into all the chaos he’s creating…
I know this sounds trite, but this too shall pass, I know we’re a much smaller (in population not size) country than America but we had almost a decade of frightening ‘leadership’ (I use the word loosely) and I think it made people more aware, often we get comfortable and take things for granted. Keep positive thoughts. 🙂
I love Canada. I had lots of relations who emigrated there from Orkney. I have been to Canada. Toronto and Kapuskasing. I would love to live in Canada, I would probably find everything cheaper than Scotland. Everything costs more in Scotland. lol
And I have relatives from Scotland, yes, a lot of folks have come here, I’ve heard from them it’s because parts of our land look like Scotland.
Thanks for the love, sending it back to you across the Pond. Big we’re all just people hugs xoxo
Hugs back to you my friend. xxx
🙂
lol, Canada will be just fine. he won’t pull out of NAFTA, he renegotiating the terms of it. a lot of people here in the sates wish he could just pull out completely but he won’t. your prime minister negotiating skills are being tested. let’s see how things turns out 🙂
Whatever happens will be the last person Trump talks to, or so it seems. Personally I wouldn’t have a problem renegotiation NAFTA, I never thought it was a good deal for Canada, but giving people less than a week’s notice before slapping 3-24% tariffs just seems cruel, that’s playing with people’s lives. Do it the right way instead of just for show.
true, well a lot of things he does is just for show. he is treating his presidency like one of his reality tv shows. this is why he changes his mind on the most random things so much. it’s sad but there nothing we can do. let’s hope that your PM is that last person in the room to change his mind.
When you’re addicted to attention, applause, ratings, I guess everything is a show, very sad, there’s no reality in reality shows, too bad he doesn’t get that. We’ll have to wait and see. 🙂
that is the only thing we can do sadly :/
Yup. 🙂
🙂
🙂
😀
🙂
Hilarious, Donna. 😀 — Suzanne
I thought I’d add some fun to an otherwise sad and tense situation. 😉
Wonderful shoutout and acknowledgment here Donna. Agent Orange sure knows how to ruin things that have been built for over 100 years in only 100 days. Proud to be Canadian, but could do without Kathleen Lose, oops, I mean Wynne, she’s like the fungus who grew off Agent Orange, or even better, an appetizer before the world got Rump served up for main course. 🙂 xx
Thank you, Debby.
Yes, I wish they’d fix the problems here in Ontario instead of making new ones, she’s not Trump but she sure acts out of touch with the people; it’s funny isn’t it, orange means something different here in Canada, well, it used to, ie. Jack Layton (the greatest Prime Minister we never had) RIP.
I certainly hope they can figure something out about the Hydro, I like having it, but affording it is a different story.
Big Canadian hugs xoxox
I’m with you on everything. And it was nice to hear that you had the same thinking as me as far as the well missed Jack Layton. You got that right. He would have been the best! Big hugs back my friend. we shall overcome! 🙂 xoxo
xoxoxo All the best, Debby, always. 🙂
🙂 You too Donna.
🙂
A couple of those Canadian imports you can have back, I think there is buyer’s remorse. Tim Horton’s is here now, well it was last I looked but then again I don’t eat at Dunkin Donuts anymore. And as far as what the hell the embarrassment of a President Mango Mussolini is, I can’t even begin with that Pandora’s box ( and I don’t mean the bracelets). I have family in Canada and could never forsake them or the country that has always been welcoming and shown me no end of hospitality. I will always love Canada and if you ask any normal people that question, that hasn’t changed for them either.
lol Yes, even as I was typing the list I thought, should I put as asterix or something around talent, but thought, I’m sure someone likes or loves them, somehow. 😉
I am an unusual Canadian, Trudy, I actually don’t go to Tim Hortons myself, just don’t get the appeal and assume there’s some sort of drug in the coffee and food, how else can we explain the obsession? I do buy gift cards for others who like it so I go in occasionally.
I think both countries are going to be ok, changed, but awakened. I just thought laughing might be better than crying or throwing something at the TV, etc. 😉
Thanks for dropping by and making me drool/inspiring me with, especially the Indian food post, yum. Hop this week is treating you kindly. 🙂
Yes, admittedly I am still angry because this person is making life harder for me on so many levels. Just the perception alone that I voted for an imbecile that doesn’t know anything about policy, civics or American history pisses me off. And to top it off putting vampires in the Cabinet. I cannot stop being angry about this, because that would mean that I’m normalizing this situation and there is nothing normal about any of it. I understand that might ruffle some Canadian and American feathers but supposedly the Constitution was written with the right to dissent and freedom of speech, (at least it is when certain people speak)and to me silence is compliance. But thank you for being a nice North American.
It’s true though, if you let it go they will just steamroll over people, as they’ve been doing, when this happened to us (here in Canada) we just had to keep at it, even if we sounded whiny or like a broke record or bitter or whatever, because it’s not alright and it never will be. You have to make your voice heard. Thank you for being a nice North American too, Trudy.
Have a lovely week as well 😆
🙂
Proud Canadian here. But OMG do I ever have a hate on for Trudeau! Serious hate.
That’s interesting. If you don’t mind expanding, can I ask why (don’t feel you have to answer, I’m curious, well, nosy, after all, Parker is my last name lol)? It’s just ‘hate’ is such a strong word and I always want to see other points of view.
Thanks for dropping by, Michele, hope this week treats you kindly. 🙂
hahahaha, oh Bonnie, that’s too funny and I’m don’t know it for a fact but I know it’s true lol 😉
I spent Christmas I Quebec a few years ago
It was really great
As Sheldon Always
That’s cool (likely and figuratively). 😉
Yes a big Honk! Very funny clips and sad days being an American.
Honk, honk to America as well, to better days ahead!!! 🙂
I love Canada; I even memorized the words to O Canada back when I was in high school, and I would sing it at school assemblies at my New York City high school….well, moving on, I feel I have to apologize for what our country did back in November when we lost our sanity. Please forgive us. I’ll even drink some Tim Horton coffee. I don’t like it, either.
It’s a good song and please don’t apologize, I’m Canadian, if you apologize then I’ll feel bad for making you feel you have to apologize and apologize for it, it’s such an endless cycles of sorries. lol 😉
Ha, ha. Funny. Are we at war? Yikes. I did not know Elizabeth Arden and Glenn Ford were Canadian. Geez. Well, keep this under your hat, my mother was born in Nova Scotia. I like the bit about chocolate being a plant/salad too. 🙂
We’re at trade war, although I think we’re just being used as a political kickball, more like a distraction.
So you’re of Canadian decent, cool.
Yes, I truly believe that about chocolate lol 😉
Hope this week treats you kindly. 🙂
I was kidding a little. I did read about the trade war a bit. I think statements are thrown out there and then they don’t amount to anything. So not sure where this is all going. Thank you D., so far the week is going well. 🙂
It’s all going South, in more ways than one. lol 😉
We’ll hope for the best. 🙂
Gads. I know things will get better. Has to. 🙂
Has to (keep saying it). 😉
Excellent, mustn’t forget RUSH
Hopefully, this nightmare will be over soon
“Closer To The Heart”
And the men who hold high places
Must be the ones who start
To mold a new reality
Closer to the heart
Closer to the heart
The blacksmith and the artist
Reflect it in their art
They forge their creativity
Closer to the heart
Closer to the heart
Philosophers and ploughmen
Each must know his part
To sow a new mentality
Closer to the heart
Closer to the heart
You can be the captain
I will draw the chart
Sailing into destiny
Closer to the heart
I was traumatized by Rush as a teen, long story that involved listening to it repeatedly, I know, First World Problems, but I try never to think about them, but I agree, to many Canadians they are gold. Are they big in the States, since I don’t think about them I don’t really know.
Sorry to hear that Rush traumatized you, methinks they helped keep me alive. “2112” brilliant, long and inspiring, showcased Neil Pearts writing. Neil wrote 99% of all their lyrics. His lyrical adaptations of books he read made me want to read and write.
Not to mention is probably still recognized as the world’s greatest drummer. As for their fan base, i believe they have a core and loyal following.
They do have an extremely loyal fan base. I’m trying to get over it, but…time will tell, maybe someday they’re be closer to my heart. 😉
This was a heartfelt post, and I agree with you. What happened to our famous US-Canada relationship? I feel like we Canadians are being picked on by the schoolyard bully. What did we do? We were just sitting here, being marvelous and minding our own business.
Thank you for this wonderful post. Like a previous commenter said, you brought levity to this situation.
I feel, like so many other things, this is a distraction and we just got in the way and got used. Yup, bully is right.
Hi Donna,
I’ve never been to Canada just British Columbia.
Thanks for bringing your post to the Blogger’s Pit Stop last week.
Janice, Pit Stop Crew
BC is certainly a beautiful part of Canada, a long way from here, but with the rain today it feels like I’m right there lol
Thank you for having us, Janice, it was a blast, as usual. 🙂
If it helps: We love Canadians down here in Australia…
It does and we love you too!!! We’re neighbours in our Commonwealth. 🙂
Big hugs xoxo
😘
🙂
Honk! Woohoo! I get to send post to Canada! Do I get a bottle of maple syrup in return? I want some amber 🙂 mmmmm. This was a hilarious read!! I’ll still be nice to you guys. I may not be on that side of the Atlantic anymore, but I give my love to all the Canadians I meet abroad – we always seem to get along!
I remember meeting a girl from Winnipeg back in the summer of 2015 while traveling in Croatia. Back then, Trump was but a joke. Man, I’d give for those days again. In trying times, we gotta band together! Much love from Munich – and go BLACKHAWKS!
Thanks for the Abroad American #bloglove Tom!
The maple syrup doesn’t travel well in the virtual world, won’t that be cool when they can feed us through the internet, without a delivery truck/drone involved.
Thanks for dropping by and happy travels, hope this week is treating you kindly. 🙂
Reblogged this on Die Erste Eslarner Zeitung – Aus und über Eslarn, sowie die bayerisch-tschechische Region!.
Thank you so much for the lovely reblog, this is so kind of you, much appreciated. 🙂
I have no idea what has happened ( sorry, I live in Spain and make a point of not watching too much news) I don’t know many Canadians, but they’re all wonderful, mostly teachers, writers and bloggers. I confess Captain Kirk is definitely my favourite😍
You didn’t miss much, mostly someone trying to distract nd deciding to bully their neighbour, so Trump vs Canada, hopefully it will all turn out ok.
I know why he’s a fav, he’s awesome!
Hope this week is treating you kindly so far. 🙂
I love everything about the way your mind works… and Canadians…
Thank you so much and the same goes for you, without the Canadian part. lol 😉
I might have some Canadian parts…
Say no more, a nod’s as good as a wink to a blind bat… 😉
…ooo000ooo…
yup
wheeeeeeeeeeeeee
🙂
that too
yup
oh yeah
alright
far out
groovy
oh yeah
I was astounded anyone would start a fight with Canada. This was so fun to read, and yet it makes me feel so sad.
Some people like to pick a fight with almost anyone for any reason, never quite understood it, but hey, to each their own.
Hope the week is treating you kindly so far. 🙂
Save us Canada, just save us!
We want to, believe it or not our leader got in on the slogan, Sunny Ways…think the USA will go for that? 😉
I totally heart my Neighbor to the North. But am also way jealous. You have Justin; we have Donald! Oh, and Lorne Michaels is my Neighbor to the West. He’s nice.
I feel your pain, but we’re not giving him up, especially for the orange one. Cool, Lorne Michaels gave us SNL and for that, each week I laugh until I hurt myself, awesome. 🙂
This Canadian gal is nodding with you! I mean, why is Canada to blame so much.. and we’re too polite to cause a fuss.. but at least we have a PM who seems to have our best interests in mind 😉
Yes, maybe we can teach the States about our Sunny Ways. 😉
We’ll love you again if you give us Justin Trudeau. Scouts honor!
Sorry, we’re not giving up his Sunny Ways (yes, that was his campaign slogan and it worked!) just yet, nice try. 😉
LOL…just for a day?
😉
Thank you, Rob, nice of you to share some #CanadaLove 😉
Hope this week is treating you kindly.
You’re welcome!
🙂
hehehe as an American living abroad, I think I can get away with laughing at ALL of this. I hear your calm collected call for peace and reasonableness. It’s not gonna happen of course, but I still hear it and appreciate the sentiment;) I really hope the orange guy’s daughter steps up to take charge and put daddy in a timeout until he adjusts his attitude. Until then… GIF away it makes the bad stuff feel less horrifying.
I think staying calm is our only option. I’m glad you’re hopeful, but having read daughter’s book, this quote chilled me, “Perception is more important than reality. If someone perceives something to be true, it is more important than if it is in fact true. This doesn’t mean you should be duplicitous or deceitful, but don’t go out of your way to correct a false assumption if it plays to your advantage.” Maybe we can hope the rest of the world figures out reality is more important than perception.
Hope this week is treating you kindly, Gabe. 🙂
I don’t know if you are a John Oliver fan, but when I saw his segment on the Trump kiddos, I found myself once again squirming and belly laughing at the same time. Didn’t think it was possible (like sneezing with ur eyes open), but it’s surprisingly therapeutic.
Yes, Harry Potter, I mean John Oliver caught my attention when he was with Jon Stewart and yes, I saw it, I thought I’d never clean my eyes, ears, and soul again. lol 😉
Wow! Hilarious. I love Canada, always have, growing up in Vermont. As a kid, the flag was my favorite even over my own. Then visited Montreal, etc. Respect from me for sure and all the people listed, yes. Great post.❤️❤️❤️❤️
Vermont, we really did grow up as maple syrup neighbours lol 😉
Thank you kindly and hope this week is treating you well. 🙂
Thank you.
🙂
Ok, I’m totally lost but at least I was laughing as I was reading. 😉
As long as you’re laughing everything is ok. 😉
Not an American or Canadian but found the post humourous. While we have serious problems of our own to worry about in Kenya…forthcoming elections which may be peaceful or not, terrorism, food shortages, unemployment, etc, we are very much aware of what the orange headed white man is doing… he probably will create problems that don’t exist with all his holier than thou attitude.
Best wishes for your election, your list of problems sound way worse than ours, but we North Americans do tend to complain a lot, maybe that’s what got us into these problems. Hope this week treats you kindly. 🙂
I feel like I’ve been given the Canadian high-five. I’d say I was given the cold shoulder but there isn’t any other shoulder Canada can give the US. I’ve been there in June. I should know. 🙂
Just for that, I’ll give you the palms-up and bore you at the same time. 🙂 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DIp4ulrif20
I found that very relaxing, thanks and big neighbour hugs xo
LOL! Happy to hear you liked the Palms-Up from Florida. 🙂
Ha, and I love oranges too! 😉
I have an orange tree in my front yard. Sweet, juicy, and all I have to do is walk out my front door…. 🙂
Are you ready to have me sitting in your yard? lol 😉 That’s awesome. I remember the smell of the orange groves so well, it’s a smell that never leaves my mind. 🙂
6 dogs would love to have company and you’d have to sleep on the floor on moving blankets. I call it “camping with canines.”
The oranges are ripe around January or February. 🙂
Now you’re just sweetening the deal. 😉
Before anyone comes out here, they have to know what they’re in for. 🙂
We have a dogmobile (all 6 like to ride) built in 1992.
You’ll have to rent a car at the airport that won’t get stuck trying to go on dirt roads. The airport is 2 hours from my house.
Sounds complicated, but fun. 😉
That’s what I like to hear. 🙂
😉
Hi Donna,
Look at all these comments! Congratulations! I know many people here.
Thanks for bringing your post to last week’s Pit Stop.
Janice, Pit Stop Crew
I know, it’s amazing and as you can see I’m having trouble keeping up, everyone is so amazing. Hope you had fun visiting, I certainly had a great time at #BloggersPitStop – you all know how to throw a party! 🙂
I can’t forgive Canada for Neil Young. 😁
What did Neil do? 😉
He sang…in a weird whiny way. 😎
Ha, that’s true! 😉
Thanks for sharing your post on creaming them Peeps and all things 51st state at the blogger’s Pit Stop. Keep em coming Donna! 😊
Pit Stop Crew
Thank you kindly, Julie, I’ll try, thanks for the awesome party. Hope this week is treating you well. 🙂
HONK-HONK-HONK-! EH?
Thank you so much, Jonathan, not only for this wonderful reblog, but for the #bloglove for Canada, eh. 🙂
I hope this week treats you well. All the best, always. xo
Hi,
My g’daughter has lots of Canadian friends and is thinking of moving there. (I’ll leave the rest of her story alone, but she is an amazingly insightful young person!!)
I don’t think I could take the Canadian cold, that’s why I live in the south!
Have a great week!
Her story sounds intriguing and she will find welcome here. 😉
I guess we don’t think of it too much, the cold, its just part of who we are, of course, I was born in a quite Northern art and now live in one of the most Southern parts, so…
Hope this week is treating you well so far. 🙂
It is, maybe someday she’ll let me share it.
I have heard that you get used to the cold weather. . . I don’t know, I spent 6 months in Pennsylvania, some during the coldest months, and never got used to it!
I’m feeling better each day that goes by. I just wish they could figure out what’s causing the pain and make it GO AWAY!!!!
I’ve heard theories about dry and wet cold and it may make sense, but cold generally seems like cold, either way, I’ll take it over the heat any day.
The make it go away is the most important part, wishing for the best and very soon. Gentle hugs xo
I guess, when you think about it, it is easier to stay warm-you just add more layers. With heat, even taking everything off doesn’t help, and would probably get you arrested!! (And in my case, make everyone run away in horror!!)
Thank you for the wishes, I’m hoping it goes away soon!
Hoping you are much better.
Gentle hugs back. XO <3
I love sweaters and socks and cozy blankets, but again, it’s all what we’re used to…the taking it all off could get evry interesting. lol 😉
Wishing you all the best. Big very gentle hugs xox
LOL, I agree!
Big gentle hugs to you, too! ZOZO
🙂 xo
XOXO (not zo’s. LOL!) 🙂
🙂
Wow, look at all the comments you racked up on this one! I hope you had a beautiful Canada Day, Donna. Mega hugs.
I’m so lucky people find the blog and then like it too! 🙂
Hope you are doing well, dear Teagan. It was a good Canada Day, we turned 150!! Too many fireworks for my taste (they’re bad for the environment), but other than that, lovely, thank you kindly…I’m pretty behind on these comments, oops, but better late than never. 🙂
Mega huggy hugs xoxox
