Drama is amazing for books, movies, TV shows (also the only place we should see giant shoulder pads), especially soap operas (daytime or prime time)… https://yadadarcyyada.com/2019/07/29/eat-sleep-rule-the-galaxy-repeat/

but it shouldn’t be the dish-of-the-day in politics and the news. https://yadadarcyyada.com/2019/07/29/eat-sleep-rule-the-galaxy-repeat/

We’re acting like we’re in the throes of teen angst…forever. https://yadadarcyyada.com/2019/07/29/eat-sleep-rule-the-galaxy-repeat/

Drama distracts us from people stealing: power, money, rights, hopes, dreams, sanity, democracy itself. https://yadadarcyyada.com/2019/07/29/eat-sleep-rule-the-galaxy-repeat/

It keeps us looking past the smoke and mirrors, the fluffy and the oh-so shallow. https://yadadarcyyada.com/2019/07/29/eat-sleep-rule-the-galaxy-repeat/

We see drama everywhere, except behind the curtain where the wizard of awwws is pulling all the levers, pushing all the buttons. https://yadadarcyyada.com/2019/07/29/eat-sleep-rule-the-galaxy-repeat/

While we’re fighting, blaming, quibbling, crying, decrying, they’re all, ‘Eat, Sleep, Rule The Galaxy, Repeat’.https://yadadarcyyada.com/2019/07/29/eat-sleep-rule-the-galaxy-repeat/

“Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.” ~Maya Angelou.  https://yadadarcyyada.com/2019/07/29/eat-sleep-rule-the-galaxy-repeat/

Come on, America, Canada, Britain, Europe, China, Russia, and the whole wide world, we know better, we should do better.

You Know You’re Obsessed with Game of Thrones When…

1. You identify yourself with one of the kingdoms, houses, and/or families of Game of Thrones.

2. You make White Walkers with your children instead of snowmen.

https://yadadarcyyada.com/2014/04/07/you-know-youre-obsessed-with-game-of-thrones-when/

3. You name your new kitten Khaleesi.

4. You name your baby Khaleesi.

5. You get your money management advice based on GOT, although not a bad idea. A Lannister always pays his debts; Master your money and don’t let it control you; always look for opportunity and so on.

6. You start trying to make candles that will make your house smell just like Winterfell.

7. You think more about who will sit on the Iron Throne than who will lead your own country.

8. You know the whole history of GOT yet know little or nothing about The War of The Roses that inspired the books/series.

9. When you’re out walking your dog you think you see a dragon egg, nope, just a part of a Mountain Dew bottle.

10. You love hearing, “Winter is coming”.

11. You change your Christmas Carols to We Five Kings; God Rest Ye Anyone Who’s in GOT Too Long; and Lannisters Are Comin’ To Town.

https://yadadarcyyada.com/2014/04/07/you-know-youre-obsessed-with-game-of-thrones-when/

12. You can’t sleep at night thinking about the dragon has three heads prophecy (hint, there are three dragons so they need three riders).

13. You worry what Jon Snow with think when he finds out about his past.

https://yadadarcyyada.com/2014/04/07/you-know-youre-obsessed-with-game-of-thrones-when/

14. You find yourself using the language like: sweetling, imp, serving wenches, smallclothes, my moon and stars, kissed by fire, I wager, etc.

15. You used to get really upset when a main character died and now you just kind of shrug and think, that’s life…unless it’s Brian on Family Guy, that’s totally different.

16. You’re scared when you’re invited to a wedding…and not for the usual reasons.

17. You give family and friends only GOT-related gifts. And they should be grateful.

18. You think of learning to swim as Greyjoying.

https://yadadarcyyada.com/2014/04/07/you-know-youre-obsessed-with-game-of-thrones-when/

19. You don’t have to look up how to spell: Viserys, Daenerys, Rhaegar, Targaryen, R’hllor, Arya, Dothrai, Khaleesi, Khal Drogo, Melisandre, Stannis, Maegyr, and more.

20. No one argues with you because you simply say, “It is known.”

21. You memorized and live by the Night’s Watch oath.

22. You worry about what happened to Lyanna Stark and want to know more.

23. You check out your window to make sure The Others aren’t coming.

24. You love the mechanisms of the opening credits, but know little or nothing about the Leonardo di Vincis machines.

25. You start talking about the characters in GOT as though they’re friends, even using their first (fictional) names…

  • Poor Sansa

  • Jaime is so hot…

  • Joffrey is so evil…

  • Cersei is creeping me out…

https://yadadarcyyada.com/2014/04/07/you-know-youre-obsessed-with-game-of-thrones-when/

  • I wonder what Tyrion will do…

  • Littlefinger should be running our economy…

  • I think Arya needs more adult supervision and less pointy things…

  • Daenerys, don’t bother the dragons when they’re eating…

DIE HARD

christmas134Yippee-ki-yay, mothernutcrackers!!!
This action landmark is a Christmas Eve you’d never forget!

Bruce Willis is the centerpiece of this movie with his sardonic and laconic smirking style highlighted as he swings, shoots, punches, rolls, bleeds, and falls his way into movie history.

Many have tried to recreate the tense exuberance of this flick, including it’s own sequels…none have quite measured up.

Republic of Doyle

republic1

Newfoundland Rockford Files, but that’s not a bad thing.

Massive and awesome Canadian talent.

Hot guy, cool car.

Mayhem, adventures, chaos, drama, comedy, running, stunning scenery, romance, intrigue, and they find many opportunities to have Allan Hawco take off his shirt, thank you.

AMERICAN GOTHIC

amgoth1No, I’m not talking about the showdown between the Democrats and the Republicans…although there are similarities.

I mean the short-lived, but much-loved TV series, American Gothic, brainchild of Shaun Cassidy.
Wow, being Joe Hardy on the Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries sure messed him up.
Or maybe having David Cassidy for a bro.  Or was it Da Doo Ron Ron?
Whatever, this show was seriously hair-raising (see what I did there, back to Shaun Cassidy and his big hair) and wickedly cool. amgoth3

Gary Cole was evil, but in a you’re-hot-way, as Sheriff Buck.

The cast was impressive including:amgoth2

Gary Cole (Office Space, The Brady Bunch movies, VEEP, True Blood, The Good Wife, Chuck, Hop, Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby),
Jake Weber (Elementary, Medium, House, Pelican Brief, Pushing Tin),
Lucas Black (X-Files, Jarhead),
Paige Turco (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies, All My Children, Damages),
Brenda Blakke (The Mentalist, CSI, Star Trek: TNG),
Sarah Paulson (12 Years A Slave, Serenity, American Horror Story – Murder House, Asylum and Coven),
Nick Searcy (Justified, Cast Away, The Ugly Truth).
Bruce Campbell sure got bugged.
22 episodes was not nearly enough.

This show was sadly way ahead of its time.

Replay this now and it would be a huge hit.

amgoth4Supernatural amusement that should have gone on and on and on.

Faux Ode to Breaking Bad

bb1Are you the viewer drawn toward us?

To begin, take warning, we are far different from what you suppose;

Do you suppose you will find in Walter White ideal?

Do you think it so easy to have become a Pinkman?

Do you think the familiarity of Hank would be unalloy’d satisfaction?

Do you look toward the Skyler when death is on the breath of life?

Do you see no further than a pink teddy bear façade, a smooth and tolerant manner?

Do you suppose money advancement toward a real heroic man would last?

Do you suggest the whities could have been tightier?

Have you no thought, O dreamer, that actions have consequences, this is all illusion breaking into bad?

bb3

With a little contravention of Walt Whitman I say adieu to Breaking Bad. Like any good morality play, the lessons were many. I bet you can easily figure out what each character personified.

Breaking Bad reinforced that two wrongs or many, many wrongs don’t make a right.

All actions have consequences, good and bad.

Doing the wrong thing for the right reasons still doesn’t make it right, right?

1ablog43

While we will miss the show, the cast is brilliant and already on the move:
Bryan Cranston (Malcolm in the Middle, X-Files, Family Guy, Seinfeld – ‘Hey Denty!’)
Anna Gunn (Deadwood, ER, Six Feet Under, Seinfeld)
Aaron Paul (X-Files, Big Love, Bones, Family Guy)
Dean Norris (Under The Dome, X-Files, Lost, Castle)
Betsy Brandt, RJ Mitte, Bob Odenkirk,
Giancarlo Esposito, Jonathan Banks,
Laura Fraser, Jesse Plemons

1ashock23

Creating, writing, directing, and producing the AMC drama series Breaking Bad was a masterstroke from Vince Gilligan, X-Files (Note the cast).

Hard to believe it and Heisenberg will soon go gently into TV history.

So long.

Bully For You

Hel-lo McFly! Apparently we now throw parties to celebrate people lying, cheating, slandering, and manipulating. We love it. We tell our children not to bully. However, we love it. Mixed messages, no, try diametrically opposed.

https://yadadarcyyada.com/2013/08/14/bully-for-you/

  • Gordon Ramsey spewing out enough spittle to drown most of NY –  don’t yell at people.

  • Honey Boo Boo – don’t tease or call people names.

  • Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, Fox News, and Sun News – don’t spread gossip, rumours, lies, false ‘news’, propaganda, BS, innuendo, and slander.

  • Apprentice – don’t backstab, lie, cheat, harass, intimidate.

  • Real Housewives – don’t hit, yell, lie, spread rumours, harass, and abuse.

    bullying6

It’s embedded in our culture; all of society seems to feed off bullying. We pretend to value people, but really we value drama, electronics, money, power, and more drama.

Bullying is not only acceptable, it’s rewarded. This makes schools and social situations a developmentally deranged breeding ground of bullying.

As if the bullying in school wasn’t bad enough, now the latest tool – cyberbullying.  No sanctuary, no escape, and oh so public humiliation.

Bosses destroying you as you’re just trying to make a living; parents screaming, frothing, hurting instructors, coaches, teachers, refs, players, and other parents; governments with hate laws, calling citizens terrorists and radicals, lying, stealing, attacking – home isn’t even safe for some people.

bullying4

This isn’t good-natured teasing or joking around. The victims are traumatized and even kill themselves to get away.

Certain characters, TV shows, etc. were supposed to be extreme examples of people conducting themselves poorly.  Now aggressive images penetrate so deeply into children, adults and society in general that we can’t remember that so instead we worship that bad behaviour.

We cheer when contestants scheme, lie, and manipulate to win.  We buy products to emulate spoiled, narcissistic meanies.  We hold parties to celebrate bad guys.  Our own governments bully and cater to bullies. Then tell our children not to be bullies.  Can you see their confusion?  The ultimate do as I say, not as I do.

Ways to stop bullying. Puppet shows? Lectures? Selective policies? Non-enforced laws? Ummm, waste of time.

Here’s a simple way – stop promoting bullying as glamorous and cool.

Stop celebrating it.

bullying7

Stop electing it.

Stop buying it.

Stop showing it.

Most of all, stop watching it.
