Love Moves Us

So my body is being distinctly uncooperative, oh you know, the usual Chronic Suckage, including but not limited to: Fibromyalgia and all its joys (heavy sarcasm), Migraines (several types, quite exciting, note more sarcasm), Titeze’s Syndrome, muscle spasms in my back, and of course, the falling and almost falling (I do my own stunts, I think I could do Tiktok videos of me trying not to fall, it sort of resembles dancing, er, maybe Elaine from “Seinfeld” dancing, but still). And yes, I’ve moved again, the joys of renting versus owning. Though this time, love moves us. We’ve moved to be closer to family. And now I’m working on finding my way around a new city…with varying degrees of success.

So in between and sometimes at the same time as packing, unpacking, repacking, calling hydro, gas (got a $797 bill, it was wrong, but with the direction Canada is taking, not completely out of the question; so a couple of small heart attacks and many communications later, more like $57. Best part? The customer service agent asked if I wanted to do auto pay…ummm, no with a definite emphasis on never no), also various other thingies as well as filling out forms online, I’ve been doing a lot of reading and watching TV.

A few highlights (some books, some shows, some movies – or a combination thereof): “Where The Crawdads Sing”: “The Cook of Castamar” (obsessed by this); “Marcella”; “Bonfire of Destiny”; “Foyle’s War”; “The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart” (hmmm, I’ll rename it The Lost Hours of Donna Parker”, where does the time go?)”

“La Revolution” (what if the French Revolution, but with zombies, hey, history has been rewritten so many times, who knows what really happened? After all, Daryl Dixon is now in Paris, hmmm); “Wednesday”; “Women at War”; “The Barrier”; “1899” (my brain is still trying to recover from that one); “Vikings: Valhalla” (I think all Vikings series should simply be titled, “Pretty People Pillaging”); “Des” (can’t get enough of David Tennant; can’t wait for his return in “Doctor Who”);

“Top Gun: Maverick”; “What We Do In the Shadows”; “Ten Percent”; “The Handmaid’s Tale”; “The Whale” (get your tissues ready, Brendan Fraser is amazing and for me, the message, damaged people damage others whether they mean to or not resonates); “Castlevania”; “Good Omens 2” (hey, adding Jon Hamm and Peter Davison, you can never go wrong); “Rick and Morty” and a bunch more (I do wish I could sleep more, I’d give up all I watch for more sleep). I’ve been watching so much international TV I think I’m learning some other languages…

I tried out the new Netflix “Lite” plan (in Canada slightly cheaper still paying a lot of tons of ads/restrictions). Pros: The price difference obvs. Cons: Ads. Enough to be annoyed that I’d still be shelling out $$$ to see ads; when I watch ads on TUBI, XUMOPlay, Filmrise, PLUTO, GEM, YOUTUBE, etc. well, they’re free so ads who cares, free. I like free. https://yadadarcyyada.com/2022/01/21/cant-buy-me-love/

I wait for sales on Netflix gift cards (and other gift cards), buy them and use them to pay, so I usually get anywhere from 10%-25% off. Another con? Lower resolution: 720p, not 1080p, but most “modern” TVs upscale and I grew up in Northern Ontario, with TVs with rabbit ears; needless to say sometimes there was more snow on our TV than on the ground!

Here’s the kicker: locked content. You’ll notice a little lock on the thumbnails for certain shows, licensing issues or some such nonsense. Some stuff locked, “Vikings”; “Murdoch Mysteries”, “The Walking Dead”; etc.

Most can be found on other streaming services for free, at your local library, and/or on a free trial, etc. but I found a deal breaker, “Waterworld” is locked, I’m sorry, there are some obstacles you can’t overcome.

So I jumped up a tier. Everything is tiered now, here a tier, there a tier, everywhere a tier, tier, streaming services need to calm down, e i e i o blah blah blah. Jeez, even Netflix is a class struggle. One price for all! Cut the crap about people sharing passwords, yes, it’s probably wrong, but your prices are way too high. Want people to subscribe without sharing, it’s not rocket science, make your prices reasonable.

I got Crave/HBO free for a month with a deal from Pizza Pizza (I crave pizza and then my chronic suckage tortures me, but then its siren song calls again, so evil). I’ve cancelled now, so I saw about 6 episodes of “The Last of Us” which I really enjoyed, so far. Pedro Pascal once again proves he can play anyone, anywhere, anyhow and supposedly he’s a fun guy (fungi?). Can’t wait until the MCU is smart enough to scoop him up. Also great in The Mandalorian where he’s also escorting a “child” to safety. Hmmm. Bella Ramsey (“Game of Thrones“, hmm, who else was in GoT, oh yeah, Pascal). Maybe I’ll catch up with more later if there’s another deal or if the apocalypse is delayed…I never trusted mushrooms.

Enjoyed some of Bryan Cranston in everything and in this case, “Your Honor” (make good choices!!!). “Yellowjackets” was delicious (nudge nudge know what I mean?) but looks like I’ll miss the second serving, er season, for now.

I had Sundance Now for a free one month trial and really got my money’s worth (ba dum tss, I’ll be here all week, wow, tough crowd, are you an audience or an oil painting?). Highlight was “River” (Stellan Skarsgård, Nicola Walker, Adeel Akhtar, Lesley Manville and more make this so watchable). Ear worm alert: “I Love To Love (But My Baby Just Love to Dance)” by Tina Charles in my head, begone ear worm, forget it, I guess I’ll just have to dance, I’ll have to dance, I’ll have to dance…

Cancelled Disney+ (it came free for a year with my internet deal). Yet another streaming service whose prices keep on creeping, creeping, creeping. Again, if they want people to subscribe and subscribe without sharing, easy peasy lemon squeezy, lower your prices; it’s not that magical…

My brain and I aren’t getting along. Brain is all like, here’s some brain fog, ha ha, fight your way through that with the added stress of moving, etc. So I hung out with: Margaret Atwood. Agatha Christie, Gena Showalter, Holly Ringland, Colleen Wachob, Julia Quinn, Nicola Cornick, Anne O’Brien, Terry Pratchett, Douglas Adams, and a few others…kinda helped.

Many days I’m just too tired to focus, or even hold my head up, so e-audiobooks and TV are ever so helpful. So the 90-day AppleTV+ subscription I got from PC Optimum is fun. Watched “Invasion”, honestly, with the state of Canada/the world I’m not sure these alien shows and movies are as scary as they used to be. Could aliens be worse than the leaders (and use the term loosely) than we have? We should give them a chance. Change we need. I’ve always wanted to believe.

Heck, the zombie apocalypse is starting to look good right about now, at least there would be a better supply of housing and it would be affordable, well, you know, once you clean the place up, board it up, and defend it. I was thinking treadmills all around the place, then the zombies could supply me with power. They are The Walking Dead…

“Silo” was ok if a bit predictable, spoilers, it takes place in a silo (shocker). “Foundation” is a little disappointing, too loosely based on the “Foundation” series of stories by Isaac Asimov; why do people think they can improve on Asimov? It’s like rewriting Roald Dahl to make it more politically correct, knock it off, grrrr.

I had to use up a movie theater gift card I was given before the pandemic (this theater chain isn’t in the city we’ve moved to) so I saw “Cocaine Bear” which was just as fantastic as the title implies. Can’t wait for some sequels, maybe “Cocaine Snakes on a Plane”, “Purple Cocaine Rain”, “Meth Giraffe”, “Cocaine Care Bears”, “Weed Woofer”, “Ecstasy Elephant”…I think the options are endless.

Then here at Galaxy Cinemas we saw “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” (a-maz-zing!!!!) and “Across The Spiderverse” (soooooo good!). I couldn’t be bothered to see “Barbie” in theaters, I don’t own any pink clothes.

We’re renting in a new build so there’s construction which surprisingly is not as loud as the people who feel they should share their playlist from their cars, hint hint, I can do my own playlist, you can keep yours. And if you need to have a convo with someone at 2am, go inside the house. Oh and exciting but in a bad way, our “neighbour” got arrested about 90 days after we moved in, er, um, don’t wanna know.

But I love being closer to family. I’ve been to the beaches many times, haven’t spotted Kempenfelt Kelly yet, but I know he’s out there, I think we’ll be friends, for sure; a baseball game with my brother (go Baycats!); found some thrift stores; made myself known at the local library; fell in hearty like with our local weatherman, K.C. Colby, who makes me smile https://twitter.com/KCColbyCTV;

grown my hair into a proper bob; made perogies with the fam; tried to knit again, what can I say, knit happens; bought Taylor Swift tickets (just wanted to see if you were paying attention); ate no chocolate *bahaha, clearly untrue;

Kempenfest (it put me in bed for 3 days but sadly that’s not unusual, again, chronic suckage https://yadadarcyyada.com/2019/11/22/99-problems-and-fibromyalgia-is-all-of-them/) and look, blogging again. https://yadadarcyyada.com/2017/02/02/theres-no-crying-in-blogging/

Amazon jumped the price on Amazon Prime again, so I cancelled. I keep trying to get away but they keep pulling me back in, with my arch nemesis, a deal.

Sigh. Being broke and obscure kinda sucks. Maybe I’ll win a lottery, or a long-long-long-long lost relative will leave me a juicy inheritance…or something even more unbelievable, the Liberal government will actually, after 1100+ days (with another 2 years to go), pass the Canada Disability Benefit. To paraphrase Queen, All we hear is government ga ga, government goo goo, disabled Canadians are just background noise to you Justin Trudeau. Hmmm, the lottery seems like better odds.

Sorry I’ve been away so long, I know I keep saying that and I do sincerely mean it each time. But I’m settled now, who knows for how long, the life of a renter is so unstable, especially these days thanks to decades and decades of poor housing policies and many other poor choices, you know, give me the country (the world?) for a few years, I’ll straighten it out.

I’m an Autumn person and being further up North so many of the leaves have already gifted us with their colourful joy…sigh, delightful. Time for hot chocolate, sweaters, “Hocus Pocus”, “Halloweentown”, Thanksgiving (Happy Thansgiving to all in Canada), apple cider, the new “Haunted Mansion” and more. I was born for the Fall, except for pumpkin spice, that I don’t get, but respect for those who do. https://yadadarcyyada.com/2015/10/09/you-may-say-im-a-dreamer/

I’m ready, Great Pumpkin, I’ve found the most sincere pumpkin patch.

All We’re Asking Is For A Little Respect

https://yadadarcyyada.com/2018/08/17/all-were-asking-is-for-a-little-respect/Vague Meanderings from The Great White North
Yes, The Great White North, we don’t need to be great again, we just are…oh and by white we mean our snow, not our complexions (what’s that got to do with anything anyway?). We’re proud to be a cultural mosaic. It’s not cold here right now, it’s sauna-like, with the prerequisite nude folks (sometimes a towel can be a lifesaver…mine). https://yadadarcyyada.com/2018/08/17/all-were-asking-is-for-a-little-respect/

  • Our news is flooded with the loss of a spectacular voice (for song and human rights) that came from an inspirational woman – Aretha Franklin, The Queen of Soul will move our ears, feet, and hearts forever…https://yadadarcyyada.com/2018/08/17/all-were-asking-is-for-a-little-respect/

  • More people killed with guns (who knew, guns do kill people); Omarosa is a sociopath just like Trump The Great Orange Misleader, they deserve each other, but we don’t deserve either – perhaps they’re in on it together, hey, let’s have a public feud and split the royalties.https://yadadarcyyada.com/2018/08/17/all-were-asking-is-for-a-little-respect/

  • Canada has legal marijuana (if ya wanna). Trump is meangirling us, “I’m not even talking to Canada right now!”  OMG, cause Kelly told Stephen told Sarah told Jared told Ivanka that Justin Trudeau wasn’t kissing Donald’s butt – I can’t even!  New reality show idea: “High School White House”. How’s that cyberbullying campaign going, Melania? Be Best indeed.

    https://yadadarcyyada.com/2018/08/17/all-were-asking-is-for-a-little-respect/

  • By the way, Trump not talking to us here in Canada, can I just say a simple and heartfelt, thank you. https://yadadarcyyada.com/2017/04/28/well-cream-you-with-our-tim-hortons-donuts-you-hosers/ America has 10x Canada’s population but we’re dominating trade and hurting the USA? How does that work? Math, dude, try it.

    https://yadadarcyyada.com/2018/08/17/all-were-asking-is-for-a-little-respect/

  • HBC (Hudson’s Bay Company)/Britain, now they knew how to dominate trade, unfortunately in an aggressively brutal, demeaning, and evil way, especially the fur trade –  can you tell I just watched Frontier on Netflix, originally on Discovery? This is sort of a Canadian Game of Thrones, with less incest and rape; more fur and Jason Momoa (oh my, did it just get really hot in here? Blogger fanning herself…

    https://yadadarcyyada.com/2018/08/17/all-were-asking-is-for-a-little-respect/

Been watching him since Stargate: Atlantis, don’t judge. Game of Thrones really should have kept him longer, Khal Drogo, oh my, even hotter in here….sure, he’s Aquaman now, but we have to watch the new DC stuff to see him, shudder, also, Allan Hawco, Shawn Doyle, Landon LiboironTantoo Cardinal, Evan Jonigkeit, Greg Bryk, Zoe Boyle and more. But I digress.

    https://yadadarcyyada.com/2018/08/17/all-were-asking-is-for-a-little-respect/

  • Automation killed the jobs, not NAFTA. See, we missed a step, a) Get everyone a basic income, we should all have enough (those who want more are free to pursue it; don’t bother with the ‘we don’t have the money’, we do, it’s just lining the wrong pockets), then, b) Automate the jobs, and lastly, c) Quit whining, learn some facts (they’re fun, I promise).

    https://yadadarcyyada.com/2018/08/17/all-were-asking-is-for-a-little-respect/

  • Taking down all the statues? The American Civil War happened. Slavery happened (and it wasn’t a choice, Kanye West, you’re confused). Genocides. Holocausts. Sir John A Macdonald happened. You can’t erase history like an old VCR tape of Magnum P.I. – learn from it, don’t let it happen again. Redo the plaques on statues with both, oh heck, why not all, sides of the story? No use throwing out all the old drunk white guys with the bath water (at this rate there will just be more).

    https://yadadarcyyada.com/2018/08/17/all-were-asking-is-for-a-little-respect/

  • Saudi Arabia is picking on Canada cause we’re standing up for human rights , women’s rights, and freedom of speech – well excuuuuuuse us! We’re Canada, guys, it’s kind of our thing. We’re Peacekeepers. https://yadadarcyyada.com/2018/08/17/all-were-asking-is-for-a-little-respect/All we’re asking is for a little respect…just a little (although a lot would better, sometimes more is better).

    https://yadadarcyyada.com/2018/08/17/all-were-asking-is-for-a-little-respect/

  • We don’t have a spotless human rights record ourselves, the Indian Act, Residential Schools, https://yadadarcyyada.com/2015/06/06/people-are-people/ polluted water, poverty, black mold and so much more on reserves, oh heck, reserves themselves (let’s go with cultural genocide), but we’re not just paying lip service to trying to do better, er, mostly…and as a woman, gotta say, equal rights, hmmmm….not so much.https://yadadarcyyada.com/2018/08/17/all-were-asking-is-for-a-little-respect/

And as the clock moves backwards in Ontario (that’s a Province…honest) – to start, no more electric vehicle rebates, clean energy rebates, carbon tax, oh and moving sex education back 20 years…Wait, so we now have Buck-A-Beer, legalized marijuana, and out-of-date sex ed – what could go wrong?https://yadadarcyyada.com/2018/08/17/all-were-asking-is-for-a-little-respect/

  • What else? Children in cages; children stolen from their parents; war; famine; biorisk; healthcare; revoking security clearances (public enemies list, aah, Nixon, the gift that keeps on giving…maybe his ghost is floating around going, “I am not that  big a crook!”, so instead, McRaven for Prez 2020?) to stop an investigation. Witch hunt (which hunt?) or rigged election, conspiracy, and a desperate attempt to hang onto stolen power.https://yadadarcyyada.com/2018/08/17/all-were-asking-is-for-a-little-respect/

  • ISIS, still a thing (look up the numbers); human trafficking; child abuse (I believe you forfeit your rights as a human when you hurt a child, there, I said it…and I have some ideas on what to do with them).https://yadadarcyyada.com/2018/08/17/all-were-asking-is-for-a-little-respect/

  • Racism, sexism and a bunch of other isms; collaborators to the right of us, maybe to the left – there must be some kinda way outta here, because Bob Dylan/Jimi Hendrix got it right, “let us stop talkin’ falsely now” and by ‘falsely’ they didn’t mean believe liars, try it the other way round, there, that’s a better fit.

    https://yadadarcyyada.com/2018/08/17/all-were-asking-is-for-a-little-respect/

  • Climate change, sure, it’s all natural, sure, we’ll just keep telling ourselves that, extreme weather events are good fodder for social media (Instagram that hurricane!); gray/grey tsunami (not fifty shades either).

    https://yadadarcyyada.com/2018/08/17/all-were-asking-is-for-a-little-respect/

  • Cybersecurity; free trade; fair trade; fair work; fair treatment; fair weather (umm, friends…no one told life was gonna be this way https://yadadarcyyada.com/2017/09/28/we-were-on-a-break/)

    https://yadadarcyyada.com/2018/08/17/all-were-asking-is-for-a-little-respect/

  • More tax breaks/loopholes for the poor little rich guys, they’re hard done by you know; opioids; malnourishment/hunger; clean water scarcity;https://yadadarcyyada.com/2018/08/17/all-were-asking-is-for-a-little-respect/

  • Russian nesting doll satellites; comets; plastic pollution islands, grieving Orcas; dead sea life; nuclear insecurity (aka spoiled brats holding their, er, weapons in their creepy little hands).

    https://yadadarcyyada.com/2018/08/17/all-were-asking-is-for-a-little-respect/

  • Unemployment/underemployment; lack of education; fossils liking fuels; food waste; The Walking Dead, aka zombies (oh wait, is that just Congress and the Senate, hard to tell)…

    https://yadadarcyyada.com/2018/08/17/all-were-asking-is-for-a-little-respect/

  • Space Force (can I wear space pants in these latest Star Wars?).

    https://yadadarcyyada.com/2018/08/17/all-were-asking-is-for-a-little-respect/

  • Wildfires (how can we sleep when our homes are burning?); scams; scums; lack of social and economic dignity (where’s that respect again?); rape; slime; murder; priests (fix the problem instead of continually apologizing and making payouts).

https://yadadarcyyada.com/2018/08/17/all-were-asking-is-for-a-little-respect/

  • Even if I’m never heard, my words bouncing around this giant virtual haystack, pinging like a metal ball in a pinball machine (oh my, how old am I again?)

    https://yadadarcyyada.com/2018/08/17/all-were-asking-is-for-a-little-respect/

then at least I won’t be a link in this “Chain, Chain, Chain…Chain of Fools”. Money shouldn’t rule.https://yadadarcyyada.com/2018/08/17/all-were-asking-is-for-a-little-respect/

    • I still believe (don’t stop believing…) we can rise together. “Think”. Think, think, who do you wanna be?

I feel kinda let down. Canada has kept our part of the bargain, regularly offering up sacrificial talent to the USA volcano: Michael J. Fox, Ryan Reynolds, Jim Carrey, Dan Akroyd, Mike Myers, William Shatner https://yadadarcyyada.com/2013/10/20/shatners-world-we-just-live-in-it/

Speak truth to power, tell the Emperor he’s not wearing any clothes, Oh Lord, I feel like scrubbing my mind of that horrifying orange image. How can you trust a guy that says he’s gonna pull out then doesn’t? Fighting with both your neighbours, Canada and Mexico, America, who’s the problem child? https://yadadarcyyada.com/2014/07/04/happy-4th-of-july/

https://yadadarcyyada.wordpress.com/2017/04/28/well-cream-you-with-our-tim-hortons-donuts-you-hosers/Canada isn’t known as the 51st state for nothing. Maybe you’d like us more if we added yet another Canadian superhero, say, to The Avengers?  https://yadadarcyyada.com/2015/05/02/the-avengers-age-of-oldtron/
How about Captain Concussion, a hockey player caught in a Gamma radiation blast from an experimental Zamboni (a real word, say it a few times, it’s fun).

https://yadadarcyyada.wordpress.com/2017/04/28/well-cream-you-with-our-tim-hortons-donuts-you-hosers/

Captain Concussion could use his superpowers to fight Iced Z, the Zamboni driver who got turned into an arch-villain during the blast and bring awareness to concussions. Stan Lee could show up selling beer and snacks at the hockey games. And we’ve got some groovy 70’s music too, how about a StarCanuckLord in the next Guardians of the Galaxy movie?

https://yadadarcyyada.wordpress.com/2017/04/28/well-cream-you-with-our-tim-hortons-donuts-you-hosers/

Come on, we’re trying, we elected a moderate-yoga-posing-legalizing-marijuana- -nonorange-hot Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau (not perfect, but seems like he’s actually part of the human race).

https://yadadarcyyada.wordpress.com/2017/04/28/well-cream-you-with-our-tim-hortons-donuts-you-hosers/

But it’s not enough, is it, America, I know, Blame Canada, we’re not a real country anyway (thanks South Park).

https://yadadarcyyada.wordpress.com/2017/04/28/well-cream-you-with-our-tim-hortons-donuts-you-hosers/

And France, you too? I gave you a pass on escargot, but frog legs – please, I’m a Kermit fan https://yadadarcyyada.com/2014/09/17/on-the-right-track-muppets-they-were-sewn-that-way/. https://yadadarcyyada.wordpress.com/2017/04/28/well-cream-you-with-our-tim-hortons-donuts-you-hosers/

French is one of Canada’s official languages, some facsimile of English is the other. We have a whole French province, we love French Toast, French Fries, French cheese, Lord knows we drink more than our share of French wine…

France, you have the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, Johnny Depp drinking living there (is there really another Pirates of the Caribbean movie, talk about not pulling out in time). https://yadadarcyyada.wordpress.com/2017/04/28/well-cream-you-with-our-tim-hortons-donuts-you-hosers/

Please don’t let Russia/Putin control your election like it did with the #Election2016 and #Brexit – aren’t you kinda notorious for revolutions against tyrants?

The same goes for upcoming elections in other countries, ie. Britain – you’ve given us so much, where would I start? Music, Monty Python, Doctor Who, Jane Austen, Star Wars filming there (May the Fourth be with you https://yadadarcyyada.com/2014/05/04/may-the-4th-be-with-you/)…

We still accept endless visits from Prince Charles/Camilla when you know some prefer Kate Middleton, Prince William, Princess Charlotte, Prince George, and Prince Harry. We still have the Queen on our money.

This hating on Canada by The White House will have ramifications for many. In Canada, we already pay more for most stuff than Americans do; now our dollar shrank, meaning we’ll pay even more for books (noooo!), food, shelter, clothes, medicine, and even, gasp, chocolate.

But America, won’t you please, please won’t you be my good neighbour again? I miss you. A lot.https://yadadarcyyada.wordpress.com/2017/04/28/well-cream-you-with-our-tim-hortons-donuts-you-hosers/

Happy Canada Day Eh

1cana22

I am Canadian.

Proudly Canadian, most of the time.

Canada is majestic, not merely our stunning landscape, but its people. Our cultural mosaic is a rich montage of various cultures, beliefs, foods, etc. that mostly blend quite well. Do we have differences? Definitely, but that could be part of our strength if we fight the real enemy, not each other.

  • Canada is the world’s second largest country in land mass, surrounded on 3 sides by oceans which is why we have the largest coastline in the world…I wonder how that will work with rising ocean levels due to climate change?

  • We have tiny hamlets to sprawling cities. Farmland, fishing, fracking, factories, forests, in fact, over 30% of Canada is forest. Sadly, less each day as so much is clear-cut for timber and to make way for more oil sands projects, cities, roads, highways, shopping malls, etc.

  • Canadians are an obsessive people. Over 80% of our households have internet and we use it a lot more than other countries, maybe we pay so much, they know they have us hooked.

  • What else are we obsessive about? Tim Hortons, food, drinking, hockey, shopping, smoking, driving, boating, skiing, beer, gardening, gambling, golfing, traveling, sex, drugs (Mayor of Toronto, Rob Ford even smokes crack), rock’n’roll, candy, cake, cookies, chocolate, clothes, porn, baseball, basketball (our Toronto Raptors even have thier own Jurassic Park?), hockey, holidays, cooking, eating, wasting, stuff, video games,  hockey, TV (over 125,000 Canadian households even have a TV in their bathroom), movies, books, smartphones, well, you name it, I’m sure we’re obsessed with it. We generate well over 700 kilograms of waste per person per year. So proud.

Dave Thomas (as the Beaver), Brent Butt, Jim Carrey, Lucy Maud Montgomery, Rick Moranis, Stephen Leacock, Pierre Berton, Robertson Davies, Mike Myers, Tommy Chong, Dave Foley, Douglas Copeland, Farley Mowat, Joshua Jackson, Margot Kidder, Seth Rogen, Chris Hatfield, Ryan Reynolds, Martin Short, Brendan Fehr, Victor Garber, Anna Paquin, Shania Twain, Joni Mitchell, Arcade Fire, Willard Boyle, Roberta Bondar, Rob Ford, Cory Monteith, Colm Feore, Bruce Greenwood, Justin Bieber, James Cameron…
too many to name. You’re welcome and we’re sorry, that should about cover it.

  • What else? 2 km underground, we have the world’s deepest lab, Snolab, in Sudbury (which rocks!).

  • 6 time zones and the world’s longest highway, the Trans-Canada Highway, over 7604 kilometers (4725 miles). Maybe Canadian Tom Cochrane’s inspiration for Life is a Highway?

  • Over 75% of the world’s maple syrup produced, mostly in Quebec. Sweet.

1cana15

  • We have 2 official languages, English and French. Queen Elizabeth II is somehow still our Head of State.

1cana6

  • Canada is also the world’s most amazing water source. Yes, over 20% of the world’s fresh water, more lakes than all the other countries combined, the world’s largest freshwater island – Manitoulin Island, Ontario and of course, the awesome Niagara Falls.

1cana27

  • I fully expect our H2O to get us taken over one day, or some government selling it all. Documentaries like: Last Call At The Oasis (CBC), Thirst (Bullfrog Films), Flow (Oscilloscope), Watermark (Mongrel), Liquid Assets: The Big Business of Water (CNBC), Blue Gold: World Water Wars (Purple Turtle Films), Tapped (Atlas Films), The Colorado River: Running Near Empty (Pete McBride) highlight that once we’ve destroyed the water and air nothing else will matter. Watch 1 less trendy TV show, blockbuster movie, or YouTube video each week; watch documentaries, see the world as it is, not the façade the corporations, governments, etc. are showing you.

1cana10

  • We have a poor track record with our First Nations people. Sadly we don’t treat our veterans as well as we should either. Too much of the time our government of the day (hopefully that will change soon, very very soon, did I mention soon?) acts like the only good veteran is a dead veteran, oh except on photo-op days when politicians fake smile while shaking hands they’re not fit to shake. We also don’t treat our seniors, special needs, some minorities, or women, well, who does that leave, oh yes, rich white men, they’re treated like gods in Canada, at this time.

1cana7

  • Once known for being polite, diplomatic, peacekeepers, kind, caring, hopeful, giving, socially responsible, progressive, innovative, funny, strong, and free, the Canada we are so proud of is slowly slipping away, but hopefully not without a fight.

“My friends, love is better than anger.
Hope is better than fear.
Optimism is better than despair.
So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic.
And we’ll change the world.”
~Jack Layton

Canada’s literacy rate is over 99% so I know if you’re in Canada, you can most likely read this.

Happy Canada Day eh!
