Breathe. Just Breathe.

https://yadadarcyyada.com/2017/12/16/breathe-just-breathe/What is Net Neutrality?
Do we have it?
Do we want it?
Is there an app for it?
Is it a new series on Netflix or Hulu and if not, should it be?
Does it involve The Force, coffee, or kittens? What does it mean?https://yadadarcyyada.com/2017/12/16/breathe-just-breathe/
Here’s my grasp of Net Neutrality…stuff neutrally enters the great wide open of the net, including but not limited to: ads; blogging; movies; TV; Hygge; chocolate envy 🍫; bragging; bullying; sports; VR/virtual reality; pandas; puppies; AR/augmented reality; porn; fitness; diets; celebrities; cybercelebrities; wannabes; Pokemon Go (away); AI/Artificial Intelligence (beating out organic intelligence most days); https://yadadarcyyada.com/2017/12/16/breathe-just-breathe/mansplaining; news; Social Media, i.e. Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Reddit, YouTube, StumbleUpon, Pinterest, Snapchat; Bitcoin; cookies; contests; random kindness; spam; clickbait; trolling; lying; pivoting; emojis 🎄 😍 🤷 ; Royals; catfishing; snowflakes; pill-pushers (possible deathpills, take a chance for more hair and ummm, personal growth);https://yadadarcyyada.com/2017/12/16/breathe-just-breathe/scams; information; disinformation; stalking; harassment; #MeToo; zombies 🧟‍♀️; shopping; games; micro-moments; racism; sexism; recipes; cozy coziness; altleisure; memes; travel; spoilers; triggers; gifs; Christmas 24/7/365 🎅 ; crafting; fashion; challenges; Star Trek and Star Wars (how many Jedi were left again?); https://yadadarcyyada.com/2017/12/16/breathe-just-breathe/food; kittens; kittens cooking food (is there no end to their talents?) 🐱; Disney trying to out-Fox the competition; unicorns; vampires; all the feels; optimization; monetization; music (or what passes); and…this post. Even on the net, you could feel a form of stuffocation.https://yadadarcyyada.com/2017/12/16/breathe-just-breathe/Everything on the net should be treated equally by your Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and governments. No discrimination. No differences in charges by content, site, platform, app, user, modes of communication, or attached equipment. We hold these truths to be self-evident that all bits and bytes on the internet are created equal.https://yadadarcyyada.com/2017/12/16/breathe-just-breathe/Closed net: severely restricts access, artificially degrades and throttles some services, and filters information. Open net: gives users access and free will (algorithm permitted). Real costs of losing NN: Skyrocketing rates, limited freedoms/access, throttling, and slowed streaming of video games, music, movies, TV, etc. Remember dial-up, everything old is new again, right, unless you can pay more. https://yadadarcyyada.com/2017/12/16/breathe-just-breathe/Vinton Cerf, co-inventor of Internet Protocol supports NN, as does Tim Berners-Lee, creator of the Worldwide Web. https://yadadarcyyada.com/2014/03/12/world-wide-web-turns-25-happy-birthday/https://yadadarcyyada.com/2017/12/16/breathe-just-breathe/
Activists, corporations, citizens generally agree; one powerful special interest group, telecom companies with deep pockets employing blobs of lobbyists (counting on the human tendency not to fully appreciate things and people until they’re gone) doesn’t. https://yadadarcyyada.com/2017/12/16/breathe-just-breathe/Encouraging competition? Or encouraging net dominance? Everyone’s hooked, let’s sweat even more money out of them. https://yadadarcyyada.com/2017/12/16/breathe-just-breathe/Loss of Net Neutrality will further widen the wealth gap; making even more haves and have-nots, even in business. They’re going down a path we don’t want to follow.https://yadadarcyyada.com/2017/12/16/breathe-just-breathe/
Communications neutrality has been debated for centuries: telephones, telegraphs, mail, Pony Express, Morse Code, Aldis lamps, Hieroglyphs? This has all happened before: limiting freedoms, fear-mongering, inequality, cronyism, sexism, racism, elitism…around and around it goes, where it stops, oh, it doesn’t.https://yadadarcyyada.com/2017/12/16/breathe-just-breathe/For years, many, including John Oliver (HBO) https://yadadarcyyada.com/2014/06/02/net-neutrality-i-hardly-knew-you/ have tried to make people aware; there was headway, before Putin, I mean, Trump became President.https://yadadarcyyada.com/2017/12/16/breathe-just-breathe/Loss of Net Neutrality could have a positive effect, people might spend less time online…but let’s face it, a body in motion stays in motion and our society is fully mobile.https://yadadarcyyada.com/2017/12/16/breathe-just-breathe/ It’s now, not the future, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has decided, thumbs down to NN – fast and slow broadband lanes will be allowed. https://yadadarcyyada.com/2017/12/16/breathe-just-breathe/This holiday season give yourself the greatest gift of all, breathe, just breathe, then get involved in this (and more). Write letters/emails; take part in politics; start/sign petitions; listen to truth (it’s still out there)…Freedom is worth more than anything you’ll ever buy or receive from any store.https://yadadarcyyada.com/2017/12/16/breathe-just-breathe/

You Had Me At Cake…

https://yadadarcyyada.com/2016/09/16/you-had-me-at-cake/Humans are capable of greatness, but too often it’s just us saying we’re great. With all reverence, I’ll paraphrase the magnificent R.E.M.: In the eye of a hurricane, feeling your insides churning as you hear the pain. Bored of people only mis-serving, wanting to believe, can’t perceive their own needs.https://yadadarcyyada.com/2016/09/16/you-had-me-at-cake/

Change the world, stop being fed up, instead follow through and follow-up.
Shriek after shriek, holler after holler, anyone will do anything to worship at the dollar, Bumbling, stumbling, perfectly baffled, trumped…

https://yadadarcyyada.com/2016/09/16/best-words-blog-birthday/
Tethered, biased on all sides, “winning” in a tournament of lies; chopped, cropped, plopped in front of another scream, another screen…

https://yadadarcyyada.com/2016/09/16/best-words-blog-birthday/
Another moment too obscene. Vitriolic, patriotic, slam fight, bright light. Feel like turning it all off and only watching Psych (you know that’s right)

https://yadadarcyyada.com/2016/09/16/best-words-blog-birthday/
It’s the end of the world as we know it (had some time alone). It’s the end of the world as we know it (in a media cone). It’s once again the end of the world as we know it…and I feel behind.

https://yadadarcyyada.com/2016/09/16/best-words-blog-birthday/

It’s been a stuffy, screeching, spooky, sweltering summer abundant with the bafflings of humanity and nature alike. Here I am, an oldening woman who blogs alone in a skiff in the Blog Stream trying to find the ‘best words’ and had gone sixty odd days now without blogging a post. Whether I shall turn out to be the heroine of my own life, or whether that prodigious station will be held by anybody else, these pages must show.

https://yadadarcyyada.com/2016/09/16/you-had-me-at-cake/

It is a truth universally acknowledged that a blogger, despite being in a break, cannot in good conscience ignore her blog birthday, a wonderful opportunity to thank her dear readers, who stick with her through ups and downs and even the not hanging around. Some years ago – never mind how long precisely (ok, Summer 2013) – having little or no money in my purse, and nothing particular to interest me on TV, I thought to blog about a little and see the bloggery part of the world.

https://yadadarcyyada.com/2016/09/16/you-had-me-at-cake/

It was the best of times. It was the worst of times. At any given time it can seem like the worst of times, but is it? There’s no world war. No Inquisition. No Ice Age. No plague. No killer bees. No asteroids hurdling toward the Earth (no worries, Bruce Willis will save us anyway).

https://yadadarcyyada.com/2016/09/16/you-had-me-at-cake/

No hoards, Attila the Hun, saber tooth tigers, or Genghis Khan. No cannibal galaxies hungering for galactic flesh (not to be confused with cannabis galaxies hungering for galactic munchies). No cat overlords, er, well, maybe a few cat overlords. No alien invaders (although there is that signal from HD164595, no worries, Will Smith will save us).

https://yadadarcyyada.com/2016/09/16/best-words-blog-birthday/

Last I checked, no zombie apocalypse, unless you count the overabundance of movies/TV shows about zombies and of course, smartphone users.

https://yadadarcyyada.com/2016/09/16/you-had-me-at-cake/

That’s not to say everything is wonderful. How could we not have problems? Over seven billion humans trying to coexist with each other, as well as animals, insects, fish, birds, and of course, Bigfoot, The Loch Ness Monster (Hi Nessie!), Yeti, elves, golems, El Chupacabra, dragons, Kala Bandar, vampires, werewolves, and all manner of magical beasts.

https://yadadarcyyada.com/2016/09/16/you-had-me-at-cake/

I don’t know about you, dear readers, but I struggle with first impressions. My instincts, often right, are second, third and fiftieth guessed. As I get older, I’m trying to listen to those first instincts; Maya Angelou was so right, “When someone shows you who they are believe them; the first time.”

https://yadadarcyyada.com/2016/09/16/you-had-me-at-cake/

It’s sooooo easy to sit around a kitchen, coffee shop, newsroom, living-room, bar, boardroom, online and fix all the world’s problems, but as Edward R. Murrow warned us: “Just because your voice reaches halfway around the world doesn’t mean you are wiser than when it reached only to the end of the bar.”

https://yadadarcyyada.com/2016/09/16/you-had-me-at-cake/

Cooking competitions, game shows, reality shows, sports – all answers are easy unless you’re actually doing it.

https://yadadarcyyada.com/2016/09/16/you-had-me-at-cake/

Lies are seductive, there’s no need to prove them, they just float out there in our new Fact-Free World. WTF (What The Fact).

https://yadadarcyyada.com/2016/09/16/you-had-me-at-cake/

Options? Just believe what we want to believe because we like who says it or how they say it. Forget the facts, it’s all about the feels. We feel like something is true, so now it is. I feel like I’m watching The Blair Witch Project instead of an election and as we know, what we feel is more important than the facts.

https://yadadarcyyada.com/2016/09/16/you-had-me-at-cake/

The biggest feels, fear…but if Star Wars and Yoda have taught us anything, it’s this, “Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.”

https://yadadarcyyada.com/2016/09/16/best-words-blog-birthday/

And it’s been announced Trump is going to write, direct, and star in the next Star Wars film, Star Wars VIII: Make The Empire Great Again.

https://yadadarcyyada.com/2016/09/16/you-had-me-at-cake/

Oh la la Politics and the Public, seems like a Bad Romance. Elections, like watching children scuffle over a toy in a sandbox, caring less about the toy itself, but the prize of winning it. Divisive politics, like passing gas, it sure feels good, a relief to get it out there. Then what? The stench, the disgust of others…Passing gas is a necessity of life, although the reasons for more gas can be avoided.

https://yadadarcyyada.com/2016/09/16/you-had-me-at-cake/

I don’t like gossip, rumour, innuendo, speculation, tittle-tattle, lies, hyberbole. I like facts. I miss when the news was news, actual facts and events, not just guesses, conjecture, speculation, and supposition. Taglines, soundbites, and slogans – more important than substance, service, and civility; mocking has become an acceptable form of communication…

https://yadadarcyyada.com/2016/09/16/best-words-blog-birthday/
Blindly following anyone or anything, without questioning, doubting, challenging, like it or not, no matter what you call it, you’re in a cult…or a mob…or a joke.

https://yadadarcyyada.com/2016/09/16/best-words-blog-birthday/

When I paused my blogging I felt so far behind I didn’t even know who shot J.R…yes, that far behind!

https://yadadarcyyada.com/2016/09/16/best-words-blog-birthday/
Now I feel a little better, more caught up.
I’ve been writing a book, well, an outline and a chapter.
I’ve been reading. Resting. Visiting. Appointmenting. Decompressing. Researching. Regenerating.

https://yadadarcyyada.com/2016/09/16/best-words-blog-birthday/

Sadly, I was viciously attacked by migraines, but some downtime hooked up to an IV gave me time for deep thought…just kidding, I was thinking the doctor, McDreamy might fall in love with me, Grey’s Anatomy style (preferably with less whining). Also thinking a hospital would be a bad place to be during a zombie outbreak, but with a lot of potential weapons. I also wrote this post in my head, so it might be a bit scatty. Revisiting aspects of my life, including my wardrobe, still going for comfortable, but maybe hobochic. What do you think, dear readers?

https://yadadarcyyada.com/2016/09/16/best-words-blog-birthday/
What else have I been up to? Planning. Playing. Re-watching a few things, the newer Battlestar Galactica (So Say We All) and Warehouse 13  – thank you dear Teagan https://teagansbooks.com/ for making me want to revisit The Warehouse; I’m always happy there. It reminds me that the biggest adventure, is life itself, and that the spirit of The Warehouse is inside us all, the spirit of endless wonder.

https://yadadarcyyada.com/2016/09/16/best-words-blog-birthday/

I even know who Gossip Girl is (I’ll never tell xo xo). Caught up on John Oliver back despite popular demand, funny and truth, can’t get enough of that. Almost lapsed into a cheesy made-for-TV movie coma with never-to-be classics such as but not limited to: TV adaptations of Joanne Fluke’s Hannah Swensen murder mysteries https://yadadarcyyada.com/2016/05/25/crapathy/ Murder, She Baked (where ex-soap stars drop by for a cookie break; Cookie Monster should make a guest appearance!).

https://yadadarcyyada.com/2016/09/16/best-words-blog-birthday/

It seems the reports of my blogdeath have been greatly exaggerated https://yadadarcyyada.com/2016/07/08/so-long-and-thanks-for-all-the-fish/ but despite all these words, I still don’t know if I have the best words. What do I know? I know I was sad to hear about the passing of Gene Wilder. The first thing I thought was, “Put… the…candle…back!”  https://yadadarcyyada.com/2014/04/28/young-frankenstein-2/ https://yadadarcyyada.com/2014/07/20/charlie-and-the-chocolate-factory-turns-50/  https://yadadarcyyada.com/2014/06/03/happy-40th-anniversary-blazing-saddles/ Thank you, Mr. Wilder, for the joy, you’ll keep us laughing for years to come.

https://yadadarcyyada.com/2016/09/16/best-words-blog-birthday/
I know my heart was heavy and uplifted as The Tragically Hip sang a very public goodbye, a final gift of music to everyone they love: fans, band members, family, friends, hometown of Kingston, Ontario and Canada…I alternated between singing and crying, sometimes both at the same time.

https://yadadarcyyada.com/2016/09/16/best-words-blog-birthday/
I know I’m thankful to everyone who continues to support my blog – my wonderful readers, fellow bloggers, also, the lovely ladies at #BloggersPitStop for all the support. I know I’m grateful you could stop by for my belated blog birthday bash. Enjoy the party games – watch out, you don’t know what will be pinned where these days!!! Enjoy the virtual cake (as always, you have me at cake) – even chocolate has no calories!

https://yadadarcyyada.com/2016/09/16/best-words-blog-birthday/

Feel free to visit, we’ll pretend we’re under the sea in an octopus’s garden – that’s where I’d like to be, under the sea, in an octopus’s garden in the shade.

https://yadadarcyyada.com/2016/09/16/best-words-blog-birthday/

So maybe the best words are…please, be kind, what the hell do you have to lose?

Net Neutrality I Hardly Knew You

1net12 It was only a matter of time. Internet Service Providers (ISP) hate Net Neutrality. Why? Aren’t they happy people are addicted to the internet? Huge profits, ring a bell?

So what is Net Neutrality? Do we have it? Do we want it? Do we even know what it is? Is there an app for it? Is it a new series on Netflix? Does it give us cancer? Should I have a T-shirt slogan for it? Does it have something to do with kittens?

Here’s my understanding of Net Neutrality. All bits of the stuff head off into the great wide open of the internet, you know: ads, porn, blogs, movies, memes of Keanu Reeves looking incredulous, recipes, scams, spam, cat fishing, videos of John Oliver explaining climate change, video games, apps telling you to take your pills, pill-pushing, videos of babies dancing, pictures of food, pictu

res of kittens, pictures of kittens cooking food – is there no end to their talents? Even this post.

In a perfect world all this information would be treated equally by your Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and governments. No discrimination or any differences in charges by content, site, platform, app, user, modes of communication or attached equipment. We hold these truths to be self-evident that all bits and bytes on the internet are created equal.

It’s sort of what we think of as an open internet.

1net17

There are places in the world where the internet is effectively a closed net with severely restricted access, some services artificially degraded and throttled, and even filtering of information.  We’re aware that governments keep an eye on happenings on the net, it’s the degrees of which that maybe not be so clear.

1net10

Will losing net neutrality limit internet freedoms?
Cause rates to skyrocket?
Cause streaming for video games, movies, etc. to slow down? Blocking? Massive monopolies?
Or is this all a lot of hot air that like some many other issues will blow over and be forgotten?

Tim Berners-Lee, who created the Worldwide Web 25 years ago supports net neutrality.
As does Vinton Cerf, co-inventor of the Internet Protocol.

This is where things get freaky. Activists and corporations generally seem to agree on keeping Net Neutrality. How often does that happen?

But if they agree, why is it hotly debated around the world, especially in the United States? Telecom companies don’t agree and they have very deep pockets and lobbyists who have the ear of politicians.

1net13Is this about telecom companies trying to provide better service or just make even more profits?

Is this the next stage in net dominance? Everyone’s nicely hooked now let’s sweat even more money out of them.

This isn’t a new debate, years ago it was telephone and before that telegraph neutrality.

You already have to be able to afford inflated internet access and there are price tiers.
So what would loss of Net Neutrality do besides widening the gap further?
More haves and have nots, even for businesses.

This isn’t in the distant future, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is considering two options: allow fast and slow broadband lanes which will compromise net neutrality or reclassify broadband as a telecommunication service which would preserve Net Neutrality.
You have approximately 4 months to contact the FCC and voice your opinion.

To paraphrase John Oliver’s rant on #NetNeutrality,
Good evening monsters, This may be the moment you’ve spent your whole life training for, that badly spelled bile you usually reserve for unforgivable attacks on actresses you seem to think have gained weight, politicians you don’t agree with, photos of your ex-girlfriend getting on with her life, or non-white actors being cast as fictional characters…for once in your life it’s time to focus that indiscriminate rage in a useful direction. This is it trolls, seize the moment, Caps Locks on and fly my pretties fly! (Last Week Tonight With John Oliver, HBO).
Come to think of it, it would be more effective to send well-written and thoughtful points of view, because who takes trolls seriously?

Or maybe loss of Net Neutrality would make people spent less time online and we could fix some of the problems in the world instead of just endless Slacktivism.

Instead of spending millions to make the internet into a tiered system the governments and ISPs should look into laws or ways to try to crack down on those who use to internet to stalk, steal, scam, attack, cyberbully, and commit various illegal acts.
That would be a more effective use of time, energy, and money.

Community

community1

This is probably the most underrated show on TV today, maybe ever. I really don’t know a lot of people who watch it. It stays on year after year so some must.

There are so many comunnity4amazing episodes of Community I don’t know if I could say there’s a best. Based on a group of people that apparently are going to go to community college longer than the passengers of The Minnow were stranded on an island, like every other TV show, movie, or book it’s really all about the friendships, relationships, and issues between the people.

There are some even more amazing than others if that’s possible: Cooperative Calligraphy, Abed’s Uncontrollable Christmas, Modern Warfare, Intro To Knots, Anthropology 101, Analysis of Cork-Based Networking, A Fistful of Paintballs (Parts 1 & 2), Basic Human Anatomy, Comparative Religion, Conventions of Time and Space and of course, Pascal’s Triangle Revisited to name a few. App Development and Condiments with the Meow Meow Beenz test was so brilliant it almost hurt.

Amazing guest stars including: Betty White, John Oliver, Malcolm McDowell, Nathan Fillion, Taran Killam, Michael Ironside, Vince Gilligan, Chris Elliot, Tricia Helfer, Luke Perry, Jason Alexander, Luke Youngblood, French Stewart, Andy Dick, Giancarlo Esposito, John Goodman, LeVar Burton, Drew Carey, and Josh Holloway.

Who doesn’t wait to see what Abed (Danny Pudi) will say or do next? I don’t think they’ve ever specifically said he has Aspergers Syndrome, but it’s discussed and implied many times, kind of like Sheldon (Jim Parsons) from Big Bang Theory.

I miss Chevy Chase of course, always.

community2

And Ken Jeong (Chang) is mind-bending.community8This show is so clever in so many ways it’s almost incomprehensibly clever. The dialogue, the plots, it should be ridiculous instead it’s ridiculously hilarious and thought-provoking. It has a particular niche I suppose, after all, the meta-jokes don’t stop, and it’s essentially a walking pop culture reference, a vehicle to toy with TV and movies clichés and truisms. Not like a ton of other shows don’t use tropes, meta-humour, and pop culture references: Family Guy, America Dad, South Park, Friends, X-Filecommunity7s, M*A*S*H, 30 Rock, Seinfeld, Night Court, SNL, Lost, Once Upon A Time, Buffy, Revolution and so many more. It’s a tried and true method of connecting with viewers of various ages. The tricky part becomes the squandering or gorging of those tools. I think Community has a good balance.

Laden with stereotypes this show is all about the links that we find with others and how strong or tenuous those links can be.

So I guess you either think this is one of the best shows ever or you haven’t seen it yet.comunnity6

The Daily Show with Jon Stewart

jons11I’m glad to have Jon Stewart back. Not that I didn’t enjoy Harry Potter, I mean, John Oliver standing in for Jon Stewart while he was away directing, but it’s like seeing an old friend, in this case a friend you’ve never met, but still…

Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert colbert4are good for giving an alternate view from the whiny, wrong-facted, push their agenda news. They still push their own agenda, but in a comical way offered in a somewhat less brainwashy way.

In Canada we have similar programs like This Hour Has 22 Minutes 22mins7and The Rick Mercer Report.

They do comedy skits on government, news, people, etc. and generally point out the craziness and lack of common sense.

Thanks to you all for keeping us entertained, informed, enlightened, and making us laugh so hard it hurts.

Can’t wait until they return as well.
