The Cat’s Pajamas Birthday Party

https://yadadarcyyada.com/2016/12/15/the-cats-pajamas-birthday/Resistance can suck. It’s draining to be straining, pulling this way and that, feeling like you’re going nowhere, fast…I’m trying to think of it as a chance to build emotional muscles. Note the word ‘trying’. I guess I could also think of it as The Facts of Life or Growing Pains (RIP Alan Thicke, I’ll never get the TV themes you wrote out of my head).https://yadadarcyyada.com/2016/12/15/the-cats-pajamas-birthday/

I’m trying to resist the siren call of Netflix (note the word ‘trying’ again). Christmas movies/specials (even I can OD on those) and politics dominate the tube (don’t even get me started); most shows are taking a holiday break – Z Nation, Westworld, The Walking Dead…

https://yadadarcyyada.com/2016/12/15/the-cats-pajamas-birthday/

…so I’m reading.

https://yadadarcyyada.com/2016/12/15/the-cats-pajamas-birthday/

It’s a busy time of year and if you’re still looking for Christmas gifts I can help https://yadadarcyyada.com/2015/12/18/these-arent-the-gifts-youre-looking-for/

https://yadadarcyyada.com/2016/12/15/the-cats-pajamas-birthday/

With an emphasis on the gift of reading. New, almost new, new to you, gently used, regifted – books bought from wherever, or a gift certificate or e-certificate for books or ebooks. While it might be difficult to resist the bestseller list, why not try some indie authors, they’re the cat’s pajamas, remember, best-selling doesn’t mean it’s the best book. Shop local and/or shop within your blogging community. Buy from the author or go on Amazon (dot whatever your country) and look up some of these authors – ebooks download in a flash.

https://yadadarcyyada.com/2016/12/15/the-cats-pajamas-birthday/

https://yadadarcyyada.com/2016/12/15/the-cats-pajamas-birthday/Many indie authors are also bloggers, like Teagan Riordain Geneviene, https://teagansbooks.com a skillful storyteller who’ll keep you chained to your book/ereader/smartphone/tablet/laptop for hours with her brilliant books, Atonement, Tennessee (https://yadadarcyyada.com/2015/10/03/sweet-dreams-are-made-of-this/ – my copy is so well-read it looks ancient) and The Three Things Serial Story: A Little 1920s Story which began as an interactive serial, readers/bloggers gave suggestions, three things each which were woven into the story. I just finished re-reading it and it’s the cat’s meow, as swanky and entertaining as I remember.

https://yadadarcyyada.com/2016/12/15/the-cats-pajamas-birthday/

Make sure you drop by Teagan’s blog, I’ve heard rumours of a 1920s blog party https://teagansbooks.com/2016/12/16/1920s-party-three-things-serial-story/ – Silks and Bathtub gin will be flowing…

https://yadadarcyyada.com/2016/12/15/the-cats-pajamas-birthday/

In keeping with the Roaring 20s, I saw Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, from the J.K. Rowling book. I shared part of my about-to-expire-gift-certificate-for-two, since I went alone, with an older couple – see how easy it is to spread  more Christmas cheer? I loved the Hidden Figures, Wonder Woman, and King Arthur previews and the movie itself brought back the wonder, the magic of early Harry Potter books/movies.

I love books from Random House, Simon and Schuster, etc., but I also love smaller publishing houses – Open Court, Jessica Kinsley Publishing, Page Street Publishing, BenBella Books, Agate, Sasquatch and the list goes on; bigger doesn’t always mean better. If you’re not only a gifter, or a reader, but a writer and want to be an author, go out there and get published, one way or another https://yadadarcyyada.com/2015/06/21/how-to-get-your-book-published/

https://yadadarcyyada.com/2016/12/15/the-cats-pajamas-birthday/

I’ve given up resisting the lure of Christmas baking,

https://yadadarcyyada.com/2016/12/15/the-cats-pajamas-birthday/

and once again I will be checking into Clementine rehab in January,

https://yadadarcyyada.com/2016/12/15/the-cats-pajamas-birthday/

but I’m strangely trying to resist some forms of giving, ie when people tell you to give a 100%, that’s ridiculous, what if I gave 100% of my blood, or lent someone a 100% of my money, or gave them 100% of my time? The holidays are a time of giving, but one of the best gifts, remembering not everyone has someone https://yadadarcyyada.com/2015/11/22/how-to-get-away-with-christmas/ Please give your time, ideas, blood, items, whatever, not just in the holiday season, but all year round. https://yadadarcyyada.com/2016/12/15/the-cats-pajamas-birthday/

Speaking of giving, don’t forget to drop by (or drop by again and again, give the gift of up to 12 links, they don’t need to be Christmas related) my ongoing blog party, my Christmas card to my blogging family/friends https://yadadarcyyada.com/2016/12/08/dear-santa-i-can-explain/

Christmas is almost here and my birthday,

https://yadadarcyyada.com/2016/12/15/the-cats-pajamas-birthday/

then 2016 ends. Who know what 2017 will bring? Be open to all the possibilities, don’t pine for what might have been, it might never have been what you really wanted, or needed. All the best to you and yours in this the holiday season and all the year through and to a Happy New Year!

    1. I couldn’t mention amazing authors/bloggers without you, John. 🙂 You’re very welcome. 🙂
Thank you for the birthday wishes, Merry Christmas to you and yours and all the best for 2017! 🙂

  1. Great suggestions. Too bad I just retired and now I’m living off half my income. My kids stopped asking, “What do you want for Christmas mom?” That’s because my answer has been the same for 23 years, “Come to my house and take away some of this junk.”

Sometimes it’s best not to ask. 🙂

  2. I thought I couldn’t love you more if I tried. Turns out I was wrong. I love you more having found you’re a fellow Capricorn though I don’t know exactly when. Now I understand why I love your humour so much. I also found I love you more because of your kindness. I mean I knew you were kind, after all I read your blog posts, but kind enough to mention me on your blog for your millions of followers, that’s simply too much.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. Such a kind mention is far more than I deserve.
Almost more than I deserve was your exemplary warning of the ten gifts I’m not looking for. I made sure to cross some things off my Christmas gift list Rapido. I shall search for alternatives and may well choose Indie books that you recommend.

In case I miss your birthday I send you wishes from my Country, Penblwydd Hapus i chwi. As I know I haven’t missed Christmas I send you Nadolig Llawen a blwyddyn newydd dda.. Know that I will be thinking of you and hoping you’re having a wonderful time.

    1. Awww, shucks, thank you so much, dearest David, you’re making me blush…go on!!! I love you too. We Capricorns are as stubborn as mules (actually we put them to shame), but we’re also fiercely loyal and love to laugh and make others laugh. This mention was kind of an ‘Inception’ mention, a mention within a mention, but that’s because that’s how much I love you and your writing – I want all the world to know you and your writing.
Glad I could help with your shopping – if only to steer you in another direction lol 😉
My birthday is sandwiched between Christmas and New Year’s so you didn’t miss it and thank you kindly, I always have a good time (you know I’m my own party). And Penblwydd Hapus i chwi as well, fellow Capricornian. 🙂
Wishing you and yours all the best in the holiday season and all the year through, dear friend – Nadolig Llawen a blwyddyn newydd dda! Thinking of you as well, all the best, always. 🙂
      Massive holiday hugs xoxox

People can leave up to 12 links and meet and greet other bloggers. You’re welcome and hope your weekend is as wonderful as you, dear Sally (not possible, but we can hope). 🙂

  3. Dear Donna, you’ve made my weekend. I can’t describe how much I appreciate you featuring my little 1920s novella (https://teagansbooks.com/2016/12/02/book-launch-the-three-things-serial-story/) ! You really are the cat’s pajamas. And Applesauce! Am I ever in terrific company. Just look at all those fine authors. Shazam!
Yes, there’s going to be a Roaring Twenties party at my blog later today. Right now I’m waiting for the plumber I’ve been trying to get all week…
And while I should be updating the about pages on my blog, I’m blissfully “pinning” all the fantastic flapper GIFs you shared here. I’m In 1920s heaven. Anyhow, bring your dancing shoes. Soon the bathtub gin will flow along with the Charleston, fringe, and Victrolas.
https://teagansbooks.com/ Mega hugs, my fabulous friend.

I hope your plumber shows up soon and everything goes well.
I’m keen to swing by your party. Thanks for the pins.

  4. Donna, you’re the cat’s pyjamas! What a fabulously entertaining post, and you cracked me up with the cat licking the cookies! Thanks for your lovely shout out for all Indie authors! You’re one of a kind special! (I’m going to add that I’m on my desktop right now, which doesn’t play nice with WordPress :(, it won’t let me ‘like’, nor will it let me comment with WP, so I’m leaving this comment here signing in with Facebook, but know I’ll be back later again from laptop, to ‘like’ and add another link, oh, and also, I’ll be reblogging this Monday!!!!) Thanks again, ❤

      1. WordPress has made so many changes in the last few days, I basically don’t know what’s up or down, it’s wild. Sorry you had such trouble, Debby – WordPress seems to have the motto: If it’s not broke, fix it until it is broke. I’m glad you made it through the WP swamp and dropped in, I can’t wait for the reblog, thank you kindly. 🙂

    1. Dear Teagan,
Thanks for inviting us to your wonderful party – what a lovely gift to your blogging family!
Before I visit and share and then scram, just wanted to say you’re the berries and your guests are the bee’s knees!
Now point me to that bathtub full of gin, I don’t need olives, just a funnel and clear route to the fire escape in case the coopers decide to jump the bash – I’ll drain the evidence so the flat foots can’t make trouble. 😉
Thanks for the giggles and the gigglewater and the party. Hope the weekend treats you kindly my bearcat friend. 🙂
Mega bubblybrain bonanza hugs, dear friend – what a way to kick off the season.
P.S. I’ll be reviewing your novella in more depth later and I’ll pop a review on Goodreads too. 🙂

  5. This is probably the nicest gift you could give all the indie authors in your blogging community. In the past year I’ve noticed a shift in my own reading list as more and more books from indie authors have been making my list. It’s not a stretch of the imagination that if I love someone’s blog, I’m also going to love their books too.
    A great post and a generous shout-out.
Best wishes for a great birthday, Merry Christmas, and a Happy Holidays. Did I forget anything? 😉
Oh … hope you have a great weekend. Keep warm 🙂

My last couple of posts, this and the blog party are sort of my Christmas cards to my readers and blogging family – spread the love. 🙂
Thank you, my birthday always gets kind of lost around Christmas, but thanks ok, it’s a fun time of year. 😉
Merry Christmas and all the best to you and yours in this the holiday season and all the year through. 🙂

  8. I am feeling lots of resistance maybe because I have so much to do for Christmas and I really want to snuggle up with a book or the last three episodes of Downton Abbey. I am more obsessed with the 1920’s right now that the eighty things i should be doing!
    Happy birthday!

The most generous of all, you gifted us all with reviews and shout-outs, when it’s your party and we should be gifting you. Thank you for everything you do, for every delightful post – each of which is yet another gift. Most of all thank you for being you. I’m so glad you were born and are here on this world with us.
