Always On My Mind Blog Party

1blog110Decisions. The average person now makes more decisions in a day than most did in weeks, months, even years. Decisions can engulf us. Haunt us. Overwhelm us. Interrupt us. Even stalk us in our dreams, ummm, a Nightmare on Choice Street? Choices are great, but too many can make it difficult, or almost impossible to make and trust decisions. Then comes the morning after, littered with “Did I make the right choice?”, “What did I do?”, “Can I return this?”, “What was I thinking?”.

Even in blogging there are so many decisions. At first, it felt frightening, like I was that boy in Jurassic Park, when Dr. Grant was explaining how Velociraptors kill.

Now I’m more like Chris Pratt, on a motorcycle, riding with the Velociraptors in Jurassic World, which for me was an all-out, action-packed cheesefest (in a good way), but a noticeable lack of Jeff Goldblum.

And yes, we’ve all made the wrong decisions, like someone thinking it was a good idea to make a certain theme park ride that shall remain nameless, ok, Tomorrowland, into a movie. It had its moments, mainly involving George Clooney and Hugh Laurie – I do so enjoy when Laurie’s given a chance to rant.

Even after years of blogging I still have trouble making some decisions, and have more blank-I-just-can’t-make-this-decision-moments than would seem humanly possible..but mostly it’s much, much more like It’s A Small World After All.

Ever wonder what happened after? You know, after Darcy and Elizabeth, after Jane Eyre and Rochester? Some authors take up the challenge and continue the classic stories. It’s awfully daring, foolhardy, or just cashing in. In the case of Luccia Gray http://lucciagray.com/ – I’m going with daring. As a reader, I didn’t feel this was just to piggyback on the fame, but because Gray loves the enigmatic character, and wanted to continue Eyre’s story through her Eyre Hall Trilogy. The first book, All Hallows at Eyre Hall draws you in, and by the second, Twelfth Night at Eyre Hall you’re on tenterhooks, awaiting more.

  2. What’s with themes? There’s a theme of themes. I just commented on someone’s blog about themes (she was wondering if she should change hers) and how much I love mine even though others think it’s bland and boring.     1. I liked my old theme, but it wasn’t that mobile-friendly and since apparently over 60% of people read blogs on mobile devices now I decided enough of being a Luddite or a Ludblogite? I don’t know, I decided to move with the times. 😉 I’ve tried a few of them, but so far this is the one I feel most comfortable with, it’s called Highwind and best part, it’s free! 🙂

      2. I thoroughly enjoy your blog and your title alone is awesome, Lemon Shark (both can have quite a bite), but I know how you feel about the self-doubt and writers identity crisis crap, I started a book and now we’re not getting along, a bad romance, maybe we need book counseling. 😉
        Things are slow, but WordPress is also having major problems again, including but not limited to: Likes not staying (again), notifications not showing up, posts not on readers, etc. Hopefully they’ll fix those soon. 🙂

  5. Howdy, folks (and Donna!). I’m in a slight quandary here in that when I knock on the door of one of these blog parties, bearing a lovely cheese tray and other nibbles, I usually introduce myself with a prepackaged bit that babbles about all three of my blogs. However, being a strict adherent to order and proper formation, I noticed that Rule Number 2 states that I can only have one link per comment, a guideline that destroys the questionable flow of my “Love Me!” cut-and-paste intro. Then, after a moment of reflection on the important things in life, I decided to just chop up my PR package into rule-satisfying segments. Here’s the first bit…

    My writing interests and styles fluctuate from day to day, a condition which might startle first-time readers, so I actually have three different blogs with loosely-structured themes. This allows potential followers to order from the a la carte menu if they don’t want a multi-course meal. (Of course, there’s nothing wrong with following all three, please do, especially if you want to fully understand what will eventually lead to my incarceration at the Beaver Valley Home for the Socially Maladjusted.)

    Bonnywood Manor: This is the home of my long-form ramblings, wherein I go into great detail about people, places and things that have either raised or lowered my blood pressure lately. (Fair warning: I often babble in the form of a numbered list, which the “blogging experts” say you should never do. I don’t know why they say that, but the fact that people are telling me what I shouldn’t do is incentive enough to go ahead and do it.) This is also where I “test drive” stories and chapters from my current books-in-progress, trying to gauge if I’m on the right road of if I’ve taken a seriously wrong turn.

  17. Hi there, Donna’s readers! This is such a fun idea. It’s my first blog party! I’m Julie, and I write a spiritual blog at http://www.findinggodcreatingme.com. I write about spirit, the afterlife, energy, grief, and living each day with purpose. Just having this blog was a big step for me as I’ve lived my life doing everything I’m ‘supposed’ to do (I’m such a good girl 🙂 ). Raised in mid-America in the Bible belt, I grew up with church and Jesus (happily…I still love Jesus). After a very difficult grief journey, I had some pretty amazing things begin happening. I spent about 10 years questioning (the experiences, my sanity, etc.) and then two years ago I had a total spiritual awakening and began writing everything down. I wrote my first book and have had good success with it and began my blog to write what I’ve learned and what I’m still learning to help others who might be searching.

    Whew, that’s probably too much, but there’s always so much to say! Can’t wait to start looking through all the blogs here. Donna, thanks so much!

  41. Everyone is so overdramatic. ‘Hate’ is simply trendy word at the moment. Equal with ‘love’ – either love or hate something, with no middle ground. In the same way folk have tonsillitis when they really have a sore throat, ‘flu when it’s a cold etc. Drama, drama, drama 🙂
