Hello, it’s good to be back!
Thanks to all of you for standing by me, supporting me, my blog, and my blogging break.
Against all odds, I’ve tried to keep up with your blogs too, but couldn’t seem to muster the energy or inspiration to write a post myself.
I’ve resolved not to make any resolutions this new year, but to keep exploring this uncharted life of mine.
But here’s what happened when I was gone, sort of….
1. I learned I’m never going to be a proper gym bunny. It seems to involve an excessive amount of hair-flipping, giggling, spandex, and a thong or two where they don’t belong or two.
2. Inconsiderate people keep using my public library to take out books I wish to read. On a brighter note, they’ve increased the hold limit to 60 items!

3. Another plane, another train, but no way to get those Beastie Boys outta of my brain. Every time I see or hear an ad for the movie, Brooklyn voices inside my head sing: “No sleep till Brooklyn!”.
4. If you don’t try you can’t fail, but you can’t succeed either.
5. I miss when stuff didn’t have so many names or labels, when you could just like what you liked. My lovely childhood crushes on Tom Baker, Kirk, and Bobby Darin, ok, that one ended badly when I found out he’d been dead for several years (somewhere beyond the sea, for sure), anyway, all that would now be called ‘fangirling’. Long before Mr. Darcy plunged into that lake and Daryl Dixon picked up a crossbow, I had labels I didn’t know about. Forget labels, just be you, that’s enough.
6. People who say, “I’m not going to say I told you so” are really saying, “I told you so”.

7. I missed blogging! I needed a break, to write my book, catch up on life, which is being dreadfully uncooperative, but I missed this and you, dear readers and I bet you missed all my, er, blogging advice.

8. Imagine, you win millions in the lottery, would you spend it on a vanity project? That’s what Alice (Kristen Wiig) does in Welcome To Me, a weird little film with a big, brilliant cast including: Tim Robbins, Joan Cusack, James Marsden, Wes Bentley, Linda Cardellini, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Alan Tudyk. Full of uncomfortable moments, it had me questioning quite a few things, especially blogging – is blogging just a vanity project, a sort of emotional exhibitionism?

9. While suffering from Doctor Who, The Walking Dead, Haven, The Blacklist, Into The Badlands withdrawal, which wasn’t pretty and mostly consisted of me trying not to whine about it, since these are clearly First World Problems, to the extreme, I decided to read more (is that possible?). Why not get caught up on a few of the fascinating ‘And Philosophy…’ series from Open Court? I started with Doctor Who and Philosophy, then Downton Abbey, Homeland, and The Walking Dead. I noticed all these books toil to shatter the myth that TV is simply a vast cultural wasteland. Fighting zombies, taking tea, traveling through time and space, those are hooks to get us to watch and keep watching, it’s really about the interaction between the characters, the choices, the sacrifices, those moments when we see ourselves and feel or learn something. If it can happen in a book, why can’t it happen on TV or in movies? I love these books because like the TARDIS, they’re bigger on the inside, making me feel all esoteric, ideologicalish, and thinky, but without getting that time-consuming philosophy degree. Just the way I like it.

10. I sometimes forget (or wish to forget) what a tricky beast and ruthless, relentless taskmaster Fibromyalgia can be, but I’ll keep trying to keep on keeping on…easier said than done.

Tomorrow we could be alive or dead, but today, my friends, today we are alive, so go out there and live.

Good to see you back, loved your use of gifs. And a Belated Happy New Year from me.

Welcome back Donna! Bravo.
You know… I’m usually a morning person, out of bed at 4:15, no problem. But today I slept until 5, dragged myself out of bed, had a BIG cup of coffee and I’m still foggy and sluggish. However, I take it as a blessing because that less than 100% wakeful state makes it easier to absorb some things on a deeper level — as it did with this marvelous post. As you often do, you’re working on several levels at once. Well done.
Oh, and I hate labels too. Mega hugs my friend.

You really are a morning person, Teagan, hope this day treats you well, after the coffee has done it’s work. 🙂
I think it’s true about the less than wakeful state, it’s like seeing layers instead of the whole. Maybe that’s why I work on so many levels. lol 😉
Thank you, dear friend for the kind words, it’s good to be back. 🙂

I think it’s similar to some, but hopefully in my own words (although I’m never sure what’s running about in my brain)…I always liked the idea though, like that conversation from ‘Chariots of Fire’ where he (Harold/Ben Cross) says if he can’t win he won’t run and she (Sybil/Alice Krige) says, but if you don’t run you can’t win. 🙂
Hope this weekend treats you well, Erika. 🙂

Yay! You are back! Okay, here’s what you do. First, you need to complete articles of incorporation as a business entity. Then file a few doing business as forms. Once done you can rent a couple dozen PO boxes under your ‘business names.’ Next apply for some credit cards under your business name. Finally use those bills with varying names and addresses to apply for multiple library cards. Finally max out all the library wait lists. Soon you will have a total monopoly on your reading list and can read happy.

Hope this week treats you well. 🙂

Not too kind, Donna. People need humour and you do it so well. The best of comedians, I’m sure, get a buzz from making others smile and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that. In fact, I think it’s only right and natural that we should take pleasure in being able to give pleasure. (sounds a bit risque, that! But you know what I mean.)
A lot of what’s wrong with the world is others not giving or sharing their experiences and their gifts.
#9 is what you do. All of my favourite comedians have me laughing and thinking.
You laugh through things and make others laugh with you. That’s truly a gift. Even your comments are funny. 🙂
Have a great week too and Ohmmmm in any position. 😉

Wise words, people would likely enjoy life more of they’d quit worrying so much about making themselves happy and make others happy which would then likely make them happy or as you said, “we should take pleasure in being able to give pleasure” (oh my!). 😉
Hope this week treats you well. All the best. 🙂

I don’t like the looks of that Dr.
Bless your heart. Fibromyalgia ain’t no joke! I know first hand. Doing anything is a win! Welcome back!

Which one? I like Capaldi, I was still reeling from the loss of David Tennant, then Matt Smith, it’s like just when I’m liking one, poof, they’re gone. 😉
No, it’s no joke and it sure knows how to sneak up on you and thump you repeatedly over the head. Sigh.
Hope this week is treating you kindly and gentle Fibro hugs Melinda. 🙂

I didn’t like the one in your GIF. I’m not sure which Dr.’s real name, but the one who was with Donna, when she got zapped up from her wedding. With the robot aliens.
This week I’m pretty good. Thanks!

Peter Capaldi is the current doctor, that one was David Tennant – we’ll have to agree to disagree, he’s my fav doctor, well, maybe tied with Tom Baker lol 😉
It’s a day to day thing, isn’t it? Some days are certain better than others. 🙂

Ok, well, yes, we will cheerfully agree to disagree! 😀
Oh definitely. And it’s worse because people think you look fine, and are not always nice. I was so glad when I finally got a scooter, now at least I “Look” disabled when I ride it.

Yes, apparently if an illness or injury isn’t a 100% visible it doesn’t exist for some people, which is weird to say the least. Not always nice is an understatement, some people can be downright rude and mean.
Take care and here’s some very gentle Fibro hugs. 🙂

Welcome back! Did you see the new Sherlock? It’s awesome! And yes…total and complete who withdrawal. This helped though.

Yes, it was fantastic, well, of course, it’s Sherlock, but it did make me long for Whodelights so I watched some David Tennant as The Doctor and I felt the calm. 😉
Glad this could help and hope this week traveling through time and space is awesome. 😉

It’s GREAT to have you back…and asking the big questions. I like to think that blogging is not just a ‘vanity project’ for most (yes, for some it is, but they don’t have that many followers because they’re boring). For most of us, it’s to share and to BE within our words. Keep up your words, please! 🙂

I like to think we’re more than just vanity projects…when I read a post and it makes me laugh, or think, or cry (or all of the above), or when someone says I made them laugh, or think, or cry (or all of the above), then I remember, yes, it’s about the connection, the sharing, and yes, you’re right, to be within our words and to share them. Thank you and hope this week is treating you well. 🙂

Exactly! I’ve learned a lot while reading the blogs of others, and I definitely feel like I’ve made friends, even though I may never meet some of my blogging buddies ‘in person.’ And, vanity or not, I like being able to share my stories and get reactions – the way storytellers of old must have felt.

I think you’re right, humans are storytellers, long before electronics, we were sharing our stories one way or another, it’s who we are. 🙂
And I’ve made some amazing friends here…if it’s vanity, then it’s a good kind. 😉

Welcome back.
Regarding #10 and fibromyalgia: I have friends who have it. As a result, I have some idea of the struggle to get through the day that fibromyalgia inflicts. We all met at the hot water therapy pool at Toronto Rehab where a physiotherapist leads us all through exercises we would not be able to do on dry land without severe pain. (That program is a blessing to us all, but now it seems they are about to close it as one of their cost-cutting measures.)
I’m sorry you have to live with this disease. As someone struggling with chronic pain, I know how hard it is to try to live a normal life. Congrats on being able to continue this blog and write your book.

Thank you so much, Cynthia, it’s lovely to be back. 🙂
Yes, the pain is hard to describe or imagine and I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy. It seems counter-intuitive, but exercise helps, in pools or otherwise, but the pain from doing it, aarggh. But one doctor said it well, you can have weak muscles that hurt or strong muscles that hurt.
Thank you for being so understanding (it’s shocking the amount of people who aren’t) and so kind. 🙂
Hope this week is being good to you. 🙂

that’s quite alright Dee, happens all the time here . So far so good, the day was good, however we are expecting some very strong storms to come through here in the early hours of tomorrow morning. Hoping they will skip on by us! Take care and have a great weekend as well!

Yes, soon after we woke up the snow started and it doesn’t look like it’s going to stop anytime soon – if it didn’t invite strong winds and bitter cold, it wouldn’t be so bad. Hope your storms aren’t too bad and there’s a silver lining. 🙂

Ohhh welcome back! Truth be told, I didn’t notice much of anything because I was gone too. I just needed a little time to regroup and get back into the swing of things. I don’t even know if I’m fully back yet, I’m not feeling that creative lately. I guess we’ll see where the new year takes us! 🙂
