If I Could Save Time In A Blog Bottle

1gone46There never seems to be enough time
to do the things you want to do,
but there might be,
if I stopped blogging…

But I like blogging…

Yet it’s time-consuming…

Once you’ve let that blogging genie out of the bottle, there’s no turning back. I keep trying to get away, but blogging keeps pulling me back in.

I also like making people laugh, I might be the one during the apocalypse: “Knock Knock.” Random guy, “Who’s there?” “Zombie.” “Zombie who?” Me running, yelling, “Zombie, behind you, run!”

1gone20

Then again, too much time isn’t always good, when I have time to think, I often feel like an alien in this world. Not the rubbery, gray, tall, skinny aliens, more like the ET-hey-I-landed-on-your-planet-I need-to-phone-home-wow-your-long-distance-plan-sucks-at-least-the-snacks-are-yummy-does-this-dress-make-me-look-fat-type alien.

1gone28

Going out on a limb, I’d say I’m not the only one who’s ever felt they’re waiting for the mothership to take them back to their home planet.
If only I’d arrived with an instruction manual. I know my parents wish I did.

Time runs by us, screaming like a babysitter in a horror movie. And as another Halloween creeps up, let us pay our last respects to things gone, but not forgotten…maybe they’ll return someday (hopefully not as zombies):

1. Hairspray, you once permeated every part of our lives, especially our lungs…guess we’re kinda grateful big hair is dead.

2. Mixed tapes have gone to join the choir invisible – mixed emojis?

3. Adieu giving up your seat to someone elderly or disabled or pregnant; apparently now they must fend for themselves, Game of Thrones-style.

4. Farewell phones, attached to a cord, instead of our hand or head.

1gone3

5. Once loved and adored, held up on a pedestal, billboards, race cars, own section in the grocery store…poor little gluten, now dead to many, a social pariah.

6. RIP, ‘Please’, ‘Thank You’, and ‘You’re Welcome’, now ghosts of civilities past.

7. Quiet time, without tweets, updates, texts, and emails has kicked the bucket…Remember? Probably not, with all the digital amnesia…

8. Showing up at your new neighbours with baked goods has shuffled off this mortal coil; no friendly greetings, just pepper spray, the police, and/or speech on food allergies.

1gone12

9. Bereft of life are ‘Thank You’ notes, but I’m still thankful to people who say cardshark instead of cardsharp, so I can picture a shark playing poker.

10. Talking to plants is now pushin’ up the daisies, can’t we just text them, telling them 2 gro?

11. Not asking for gifts and money has kinda bought the farm – #gimme is society’s new hashtag.

1gone10

12. Wobbly inside-out pools hidden under threads of Egyptian cotton; waterbeds gone to their watery grave.

13. Patience is at death’s door, but really, there’s nothing you could possibly have to do (or explain to a judge) that’s worth putting children at risk, on Halloween, or any time.
Please pay attention while driving, I promise that absolutely fascinating tweet, update, text, or email about:

  • how porcupines mate without stabbing each other,

  • the shape of dog’s poop,

  • a divine fat, gluten and dairy-free no-bake cheesecake recipe (can that still be called cheesecake?),

1gone9

  • cats robbed of their dignity via the internet,

  • if Bon Jovi’s hair is still real (see #1),

  • which Kardashian is getting married or divorced (all of them),

1funny471

  • if Taco Bell is health food (it’s not),

  • finding out who died on The Walking Dead (hint hint, no one, they’re actors),

1wd15

  • Justin Bieber’s private parts (what part of private is hard to understand, Justin?),

  • discussions about Donald Trump’s IQ (rich doesn’t equal smart)…

1gone16
will all be there later, sadly. If not, what did you really miss?

I guess we make time to do the things we want to do, so I’ll save every blogging day ’til blog eternity passes away, just to spend them with you, dear readers.

      1. lol I can picture that.
But I miss people having private conversations in their homes, and paying attention when they drive or walk instead of being on their phones. 🙂
Hope this day is treating you kindly. 🙂

  1. Could you do anything else you would really enjoy more? I guess that’s the choice we all make. It does take time, but I think it’s been/will be worth it. I know your effort is worth it to me.

  2. In a bottle or out, timey-wimey, sands of time, any time here reading your blog is well spent, Donna.
But wait a minute… since when are big hair and hairspray dead? Not in my bathroom. Although… the way mine sticks out in all directions no matter how i try to convince it, it just might be zombie big hair… Hummm…
    Mega hugs!

    1. Awww, thanks, Teagan, you know I feel the same about any of your writing. 🙂
Big hair might make a comeback, but at least there’s fewer aerosol cans to choke us. Zombie hair sounds scary, although looking in the mirror this morning, it might be a bloody improvement for me. 😉
Hope this day flies by, dear one, so you can get back to writing. Have a wonderful, relaxing weekend. 🙂
      Megahugs!!! 🙂

  3. It is so funny you would mention Thank You notes. I told Evelina yesterday I was going to send my neurologist a Thank You note and I had to wonder if they still printed them or if i would have to go to a specialty shop! Your posts are the best, keep up the great work!

      1. lol I watched the movie when I was a kid and had nightmares from it! I used to think he hid under my bed and that his long boney fingers would grab me! Ever since then I freak out when I see him. Maybe if he wore a kitty cat mask over his face I’d be okay lol

      2. It’s weird how movies from our childhood affect us. I watched a cheesy movie, ‘The Dead Don’t Die’ with George Hamilton of all people, so you know the acting must have just be outstanding, and for years every time someone waved I looked at their palms for the symbol in the movie which I now can’t remember, anyway, I know what you mean. 🙂
ET would look cute as a kitty cat. 🙂

      1. Well, people are strange and Andy Warhol even stranger, especially when played by Crispin “Hellion” Glover…I had nightmares from ‘The Doors’ too, but it was because they had Val Kilmer play Jim Morrison, why, why, why, Jason Patric would have been a perfect choice.
Hope you get a good ‘Sleep’ tonight, Teagan, with less soup canny dreams. Megahugs!!! 🙂

    1. orangepondconnects: I don’t know if ET frightened me, but as a little kid I was both terrified of and loved the Hulk (TV show), specifically when Dr. Banner’s eyes would change and that music (hi-hat? crash cymbal? synthesizer? I don’t know what it was!). Argh; I think I might have hid behind the couch once or twice during those scenes (which were in every show at least once).

      1. Now that you mention it, it seems to me ET looks kinda like an earthworm. One of the small ones that’s a lighter brown. I can see how that would be weird and wriggly and yucky for a lot of people, esp. kids!

  4. How times have changed. Do our kids even know what we’re talking about anymore when nostalgia visits. How DID we pass the time before blogging took over? I used to read a lot more and even watch television once in a while. Now there’s nothing good on TV so I blog. Ha ha ha.
    It’s always time well-spent when I visit with you, Donna. ❤ ❤ ❤

  5. I remember some hairspray company came out with watermelon scented spray and I stalked every drug store I could get to in order to find it.

Now? Don’t even use the stuff. Maybe we need to revive the trend? 😀

I am always torn between using my time to try to blog, or read blogs I like (hint hint), trying to figure out which is the better option for all involved. I just need more hours in the day, obviously.

    1. I have a vague memory of that, why do we want our hair to smell like fruit, with shampoo and hairspray and other products, who decided, hair should smell like fruit?

I agree, I want to write, blog, live my life, but there are so many other blogs to read (hint hint). They need to find a way to condense activities or make the days longer. 🙂

  8. Yep, no doubt about it, Donna, blogging takes a great deal of time. And I suspect, if we didn’t care about our readers as much as we do, I think we’d produce in more feverish burst of inspiration before hitting that proverbial wall while waiting for more inspiration to strike us. Thank goodness for our readers though, because they compel us to write more frequently, despite our hitting that wall where we don’t know what to write. Compulsive writing is a good thing. Have a good weekend, Donna.

  15. Ah, how I miss good manners. On Friday I took a woman to task for letting a door swing back on me. Her excuse was that she hadn’t seen me, but I was watching her and knew she hadn’t even bothered to turn her head to see if someone was behind her. Sadly, she was also middle-aged, so it’s not the prerogative of the young.

You don’t have to do anything for this award.

You can choose to copy the Award Picture from my post and give the award to the people who have earned your respect or you can do nothing.

This is my way of saying thank you.
