Compassion Never Goes Out of Style

https://yadadarcyyada.com/2015/02/20/compassion-never-goes-out-of-style/

When you rise
you should
bring others with you;
when you descend,
invite no one else along.

Sometimes you will hate.
Choose love.
Sometimes you will be indifferent.
Choose compassion.
Sometimes you will despair.
Choose hope.

Was there always so much anger in the world or does the internet just give it a longer reach?

I guess there were always bullies, meanies, thugs, just generally, nasties.

Maybe there were cave people who told other cave people they were terrible at cave drawings.

But the vitriol online? Treating others as you would want to be treated hasn’t changed because of the anonymity of the internet.

The internet can bring people together, to help, to spread information, but it also has a sinister side where people abuse, use, and destroy others, sometimes for sport.

There are too many Human Tornados – charming and convincing, they cut a path of destruction wherever they go. They blow into people’s lives, wreak havoc, then move on, often pretending they’re the victim. Some of them sure are brilliant, at being cruel.

https://yadadarcyyada.com/2015/02/20/compassion-never-goes-out-of-style/Do they’re know what they’re doing?
How much they’re hurting others?
The damage they do?
Is it lashing out?
Are they so dissociated from their feelings?
Or so narcissistic that they can’t see past their own feelings?
As you can see, I have more questions than answers.

Social media fights have become notorious – they’ve lead to lawsuits, divorces, estrangement, even death and yet, they rage on.
Venom spewed toward the living, the deceased. Anyone and anything is fair game.
Just because they can.

https://yadadarcyyada.com/2015/02/20/compassion-never-goes-out-of-style/Strong, confident people don’t have to judge, or tear others down.

All that time and energy wasted, caring about who others love, what they wear, their weight, their income, what they drive or where they live, who they know, what race or religion they are, lifestyle choices, etc.

Instead of attacking – discuss, ignore, show compassion, or see things from another point of view.

Being wealthy, famous, powerful or on the internet are not character references. Character is what you do, not who you are. It’s what you do when no one can see what you’re doing. Or who you are. Or when you don’t get anything for doing it.

Compassion never goes out of style.

  1. I love this post! I always have the same questions after reading the comments on anything (other than WordPress posts). You’ve just got to wonder what people are getting out of being so vicious.

  2. Is it just me or has this happened to you? Some knee jerk reactionary spews a dose of vitriol in response to something you post. If you respond in kind he or she will gladly embark on a hate filled give and take but if you offer to debate the subject in a reasonable manner you never hear from them again.

  4. Wisdom and truth…Our culture is infected with a kind of cruelty that pretends to be a philosophical stance. If Atlas shrugs the world he holds up dies. We forget that each of us is part of something larger-we are social beings. We are living with the horrible social consequences of confusing the language of hate with free speech.

  5. Sadly for some people it was never in style. Compassion would detract too much from their spewing of acid. I like the internet but there’s no denying it has given a home to those trolls who wait under the bridge for Billy Goat Gruff, and they regard everyone even slightly vulnerable as a Billy Goat and prey. They get their jollies knowing how much pain and distress they cause.

  6. Some people are mean and cruel. It doesn’t matter why…trying to figure that out is a waste of time, as far as I’m concerned. There have always been hateful people and there always will be. Teens commit suicide because of the way they are treated. The internet gives hateful people a way to spread their hate around. I stay on WP. I don’t venture out with the icky stuff. Life’s too short to play games like that. It’s not going to stop. They get off on making others upset or defensive. They aren’t worth looking at. To me…they don’t exist. Delete…that’s what it’s for, whether on the computer or in my mind. Those people just love what they can do to others. It’s up to others to deprive them of an audience.

    1. Yes, toxic people are best kept out of our lives, if at all possible. They really work hard at taking rent-free space in our brains – no thanks.
Great attitude. Thanks for dropping by, hope this day is good to you. 🙂

  7. I am a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team. But I live in Texas. When the Cards beat the Rangers in the 2011 World Series, there was no safe place in Texas to express my love for my team. The same is true for statements of politics. I believe that if we pay taxes we should be entitled to good education and other government services. I believe those who can pay more in taxes, because they make more, should do so. That makes me a “Libtard” in the local lingo. I am used to being attacked on the internet. Thanks for giving me proof that the poop-slingers out there are not the only people in this old world.

    1. Thank you kindly. I think those people might be the loudest, but I don’t think they’re the most. I know there are still a lot of wonderful people out there.
I figure people that attack others do so because the don’t feel their beliefs are strong enough to have a reasonable, respectful discussion. 🙂
Loved your post for #1000Speak today. 🙂

  8. A great post Donna. You say choose love, choose compassion, choose hope. Making the right choices is the key. We make choices from our experience and from what we have fed our brains. If people feed on intellectual rubbish their lives will demonstrate rubbish actions. It is so important what we allow our children to watch, movies, tv. magazines, what electronic games they play, because this information is a part of forming their thought patterns. If it is wholesome information, great. If the input is violent, hateful and degrading it can’t help but influence a developing mind. Love, compassion and hope are powerful attributes.

    1. Wise words, Kathleen, it’s so true, the old saying, ‘Garbage in, garbage out’ is very apt.
It’s unfortunate in the world that power is seen as being about money, fame, attention-seeking behaviour, brute force, etc. Real power comes from kindness, compassion, loyalty, love, and hope. 🙂
Hope this week is treating you well. 🙂

  9. I’m glad I found this today. I completely agree with what is said here. I try to treat everyone, even people who may, from time to time, test my patience more than others; with the utmost kindness. It takes far more energy to be mean or ugly. Unfortunately, the internet makes it easier because you can post a comment or response and never have to deal with looking into the face of the person you just hurt. I can’t believe how much ugliness I see out there every day. It’s sad.

Anyway, thanks for sharing. Glad I found you. Good stuff! Keep it up!

    1. So glad you found me in this giant virtual haystack.
I agree, the impersonal nature of the internet brings the bad stuff out in people.
Thanks for dropping by, so pleased we found each other, hope we can virtually visit often.
Hope this week treats you kindly. 🙂
