Buffy The Vampire Slayer

buffy17One of the images that pops to mind when I think of Halloween is Buffy the Vampire Slayer. buffy5

Not the movie, although it was funny, the Joss Whedon series that was ubercool and scary.

This series was all about the writing. It was quick, clever, droll, goofy and wicked cool.

Buffy had it all: bad vamps, good vamps, sexy vamps, tall dark and brooding vamps, buffy8Drusilla, Spike, zombies, spirits, demons, witches, Faith, warlocks, geeks, pop culture, gypsies, computer nerds, dysfunctional family units, ghosts, goblins, gym, ghouls, librarians, magic, love, The Master, death, sex, hope, The Bronze, friendship, Dracula, teenagers, The First Evil,buffy13Nathan Fillion (who first auditioned for the part of Angel in 1996), bullies, field trips, Watchers, The Council, high school, werewolves, lifestyle choices, hope, fear, horror, laughter…everything you could want in a show and of course, slayers.

Although Sarah Michelle Gellar was the star of the show as Buffy, she was nothing without her Scooby Gang and all the other amazing characters, fiends, villains, supernaturals, paranormals, other dimensionals, and of course, her wardrobe, which was quite extensive.

This is a Halloween must see. Watch it for the coolness, return for the witty. Whether you like it or not, it’s all good, 5 by 5.buffy15

It’s interesting that Buffy has become such a cult classic because it didn’t always have the top ratings at the time, of course we were watching it on the WB, but it sure had a lot of hardcore fans. It’s really shape-shifted TV.

  3. I watched Buffy the Vampire Slayer—and enjoyed it—but not every show, because I was still teaching and teaching doesn’t leave you much time to watch TV.

    Two of my favorite story lines—that I often read and watch on screen—has to deal with vampires and time travel.

    The light bulb just came on inside my head. Has anyone ever done a vampire time travel story? I don’t remember ever reading both in the same story.

    1. Teaching is time-consuming, speaking of time, there were some Doctor Who episodes with vampire themes and I vaguely remember a movie that may have been called Vampire Time Travelers or something of that sort, but it’s not one that’s been examined too often. 🙂

      3. Thank you. Let’s hope that I do it justice. I’m at a point right now where I don’t know what I’m going to write next but I’m leaning toward a story that would fit having time travel and vampires in addition to many other elements. I think my next story will be a horror, fantasy, science fiction with a wide stage.

  4. Thanks for the continued love of Buffy and your blog about the show. I always enjoy reading anything and everything I can about one of my favorite shows.

    Buffy the Vampire Slayer actually did receive critical and popular acclaim, normally reaching between 4 and 6 million viewers–not too bad for a series that anchored the relatively new, smaller WB Television Network. The show was ranked 41st on TV Guides list of “50 Greatest TV Shows of All-Time” and voted 3rd in 2004 and 2007 on TV Guide’s “Top Cult Shows Ever”. It even made Time magazine’s list of “100 Best TV Shows of All-Time. It still ranks high on many TV critics lists for Top TV Shows. Entertainment Weekly devoted an issue of it’s magazine to Buffy and the series is still continuing in comic book form, currently in season 10, under the direction of Joss Whedon.

    If you don’t own the series on DVD, Netflix and other online-streaming resources offer access to all 7 seasons, so that you can still digest unlimited amounts of the series in one viewing period–better known as binging-out.

    I’m as thankful as ever for the TV series and it registers as one of my top favorites of all time. My dedication to the series has widened to me collecting almost anything collectible from the series. I currently own most of the older Buffy comics from 1998 to 2004, to the continuation of the TV series in comics, which began again with season eight, starting in 2007–and the story continues today with Buffy the Vampire Slayer, season 10, still ongoing.

    I also collect statues, action figures, books, trading cards and any merchandise from that period when the TV show ran. Buffy merchandise is still being made to satisfy the fans who wish to further their collections. Long live Buffy!
